Members of St. Marys City Council relayed complaints they have received from area residents about issues they have with the Shade Tree Commission during their Monday evening meeting.
Four of the five members of the commission were in attendance at the meeting to discuss the issues, specifically on the height of the lower branches on some of the new shade trees and the upkeep of the trees on private residents' property.
St. Marys City Hall, located on LaFayette Street, has been designated as the new polling site for the city's ninth ward residents. The former location was at the Comfort Inn, located on the Million Dollar Highway.
On Monday evening members of council unanimously approved the request submitted by the Elk County Board of Elections. The new change will take effect for the Tuesday, Nov. 5 municipal election.
April School of Dance's competition company, DDCC, had the honor of performing in the Equimania horse show in Sykesville on Sept. 7. Directed by Pam Buterbaugh, the show encompassed choreography performed by both horse and dancer. DDCC performed in a military tribute to fallen soldier, Chris Louden, while his mother Sue Louden spoke beautifully of her son.
ST. MARYS â€“ Corporal Greg Agosti, a fire marshal with the Pennsylvania State Police reports investigating two different tractor-trailer fires occurring less than 24 hours apart in St. Marys.
At 11:51 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, members of the Crystal Fire Department responded to DeLullo Trucking Company at 1022 Delaum Rd. for a fire that reportedly destroyed a 2006 Peterbilt truck tractor. Less than 24 hours later, the Crystal Fire Department was called at 8:48 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 to W & W Sons Contractors, Inc. for a small fire that damaged at 1996 Peterbilt truck tractor.
St. Marys City Council may be looking for a new plan to fund the city's inflow and infiltration (I&I) project.
Emma Daghir was crowned the 2013 ECCHS Homecoming Queen on Saturday afternoon during a ceremony held at halftime of the Crusaders' football game against the Kane Wolves. JOHNSONBURG â€“ Friday morning, area residents were invited to a tour of the J5 paper machine at Domtar in Johnsonburg. The tour was offered as part of Domtar Manufacturing Day, during which mill officials offer a closer look at their production process and history.
Recently Northwest Savings Bank presented a $40,000 check to the Elk County Community Foundation to be utilized as part of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) which will make grants available to area public schools to support innovative educational programs that do not fall within the typical academic program.
The funds for these innovative programs are administered and distributed through the foundation, which has been designated to serve as an Educational Improvement Organization by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
