Kersey native and local author, Marilyn Secco recently completed her first book "Front Porch Tales", a collection of short stories celebrating the joys and trials of everyday life.
“My goal in writing the book was to make my readers feel like they’ve come for a visit with me on my front porch on a lovely summer day while I tell a few tales and even share some of my favorite recipes, as friends like to do," Secco said.

ST. MARYS – In approving the St. Marys Area School District's 2013 budget, the board of directors have resorted to transferring over a half-million dollars from district reserve funds to cover an expected budget shortfall and avoid program cuts and tax hikes.
JOHNSONBURG – An impressive lineup of open class drum corps are set to perform at a Blast in the Burg IV taking place Friday, Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. at Memorial Field in Johnsonburg.
"This year's lineup of corps is bound to please everyone alike," said Terry Feronti, event organizer.
RIDGWAY – A Byrnedale man charged in a July 11, 2012, wreck along SR 255 in Weedville that claimed the life of his 23-year-old passenger was in Elk County Court Tuesday where he asked a judge to weigh in on the admissibility, and accessibility, of the evidence against him before going to trial.

ST. MARYS – A group of former area high school athletes seeking to have the St. Marys Area School District's high school football field renamed after alumnus and former pro football player Dan Conners were met with resistance by the district's board of directors who asked if Conners' on-field achievements were enough to warrant the distinction, given what was characterized as his frayed and distant ties to the community.
KERSEY – At just 25, Lacey Skillman of Ridgway has been waging a battle against colorectal cancer as she has been in and out of remission for a little over a year.
As the keynote speaker for the 2013 Relay for Life of Elk County Skillman told her story, often through tears, to a crowd gathered during the Opening Ceremony held Saturday at noon at the Fox Township Community Park.
BRADFORD TWP. – It took a squadron of police to stop a McKean County motorist found to have a Blood Alcohol Content [BAC] of .251 after he reportedly led police on a late night car chase Sunday on state Route 219 in Bradford Township.

Celebrate, remember and fight back are just what participants and community members did this weekend during the 2013 Relay for Life of Elk County held at the Fox Township Community Park. Susan Babik, American Cancer Society staff, said they anticipate reaching their goal of $135,000 set by the relay's organizing committee.
Leaning Pines Public Golf Course is officially open, and the course is playable and continues to improve despite the late start to maintaining it this season. Formerly known as the St. Marys Country Club and then St. Marys Golf Club, the course’s new moniker was derived from some of the trees that line its fairways, according to Jeff Struble, a member of the operating team of Leaning Pines Public Golf Course.
Sitting in a pew in the back of Queen of the World Church following a reception at the conclusion of his final Mass as pastor of Queen of the World Parish on Sunday morning, Fr. Michael Ferrick briefly reflected on how appreciative he was to the community for everything they have done for him over the nearly seven years he served as pastor.
