Bicentennial mural depicts Fox Twp. landmarks

FOX TWP. – Visitors to the Fox Township Municipal Building can view a new mural depicting various township landmarks and buildings created by Joette Mosier Smith, a Fox Township artist.
The 4x8 acrylic painting was created specifically to fit the wall space situated behind the Fox Twp. supervisors table located inside the building's meeting room. It will be on display at the upcoming bicentennial Art and Photography Show being held at the Fox Twp. Community Building during this weekend's celebration.

Man charged with raping woman in front of children

KEATING TWP. – A Smethport man,30-year-old John Frederick Brown Jr., has been charged with brutalizing a woman and terrorizing her family after allegedly attacking and raping a mother of three in the presence of her children, ages two, six and eight.

Leadership Elk County wraps up another year

Leadership Elk County (LEC) officially started its sixth year in September 2012 with 13 participants from Elk County. This program was developed to address the lack of qualified leadership in rural areas, which is a major concern for many rural communities and the future growth of these communities. To date 83 participants have successfully completed the program from businesses, industry, education, the non-profit sector, police departments and local government agencies.

Diving lessons to be offered at community pool

The diving boards at the St. Marys Community Pool are an often-used feature by swimmers of all ages, though many youngsters without diving experience prefer to simply jump off of them. In an effort to introduce more area residents to some basic diving techniques, diving lessons will be held at the pool beginning next week.

Feds hit Smith with new charge in carjack, kidnap attempt

WILLIAMSPORT – The federal government has tacked on a new charge in its case against an Emporium man charged with the Aug. 8, 2012 carjacking and attempted kidnapping of a Citizens and Northern Bank employee.
The new charge filed against Thomas Edward Smith, 58, of Emporium, alleges that he knowingly used a stolen firearm when he ordered the female victim to drive him to the bank at gunpoint, telling her it would be "The worst day of your life."

7th annual Art In The Wilds expected to draw 6,000

The Art In The Wilds art show in Kane has been growing every year since it was launched seven years ago as Kane’s major summer attraction.
