RIDGWAY – July 11 will mark the one-year anniversary of a fiery car crash along state road 255 in Byrnedale that claimed the life of 23-year-old Savannah Straub, of St. Marys, and saw the alleged driver of the vehicle charged with her death.
Members of the Benzinger Township Golf Authority were on hand at the latest St. Marys City Council meeting to request the city back their loan guarantee. On hand from the authority were three board members, with Herb Straub, chairman and Jim Dornisch, golf course superintendent speaking with council.
The Elk County Historical Society held its 49th Annual Dinner Friday night at The Royal Inn along Boot Jack Road to celebrate Elk County's 170th birthday.
MCKEAN CO. – The preliminary hearing for a Cyclone man, charged with accidentally shooting a friend during a demonstration of "how to properly handle a handgun," was continued in a McKean County District Court Monday.
KANE – A Ridgway couple face drug charges following a traffic stop Monday afternoon on Route 321 near the entrance of Kane High School. William Aaron Fourness Jr., 24, and Chelsea Marie Bowler, 22, both of Vine Street, Ridgway, were taken to the McKean County Jail in Smethport following their arraignment before Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman.

JAY TWP. - In November of 2012, Jay Township received some $70,000 in natural gas impact fee money through Pennsylvania's Act 13 legislation.
While the supervisors previously approved use of the funds for the purchase of a $50,000 truck and creation of a $5,000 bridge project fund, a unanimous decision on how much township entities would receive has continuously eluded the board.
After completing her first Boston Marathon, St. Marys resident Molly Quesenberry had a strong feeling that she wanted to see her family as soon as possible.
"I just really wanted to see my family. I missed them. I didn't want to stick around," Molly said, referring to how many marathoners gather at the finish line to support their fellow runners.
The man charged in the disappearance of a 13-year-old Clarion girl, safely returned after police in South Dakota stopped a car carrying the two, was arraigned in a Rapid City courtroom last week on charges that he drove the teen across state lines "for the purpose of engaging in unlawful sexual activity" with her.

Beat 73 was the motto for this year's St. Marys Area Middle School's sneaker drive campaign and their school community did just that by collecting a total of 100 sneakers.
The school works closely with community sneaker drive organizer Albert Assalone on the project for the second consecutive year.
JAY TWP. - Thursday's meeting of the Jay Township Board of Supervisors included an urging of the board to voice its objection to EQT Resources' plan to drill for natural gas adjacent to the Byrne's Run Watershed and institute a five year moratorium on watershed drilling in the township.
