ERIE – A St. Marys man charged with siphoning off a half-million dollars from a local animal shelter and rescue as well as clients of his own financial service companies, pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and money laundering Thursday in an Erie federal court.
Volunteers dish out over 20 different kinds of soup during this year's Elk County Council on the Arts (ECCOTA) Feed the Arts benefit which took place on Thursday evening at the Sacred Heart Parish Center in St. Marys. For the price of a ticket patrons could sample soups along with homemade breads and desserts from 4-7 p.m. An artisan market, a silent auction featuring items from the ECCOTA gallery and music were additional activities offered at the event.
State Representative Matt Gabler met with local human service agencies Thursday morning to hold a discussion concerning Governor Tom Corbett's budget proposal and county block grant program.

Elk County Catholic High School students are bringing the colorful and unique world of Dr. Seuss to life in 'Seussical,' as part of the school's annual musical production. Curtains open this evening at 7 p.m. with additional showtimes set for Friday and Saturday evening and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
RIDGWAY – An agent with the Pa. Attorney General's Office spoke to area residents Tuesday about the dangers associated with three new synthetic forms of traditional drugs including marijuana, amphetamine and heroin.
ST. MARYS – A Kersey man has been charged with breaking into a house and stealing guns from beneath a bed as the homeowners slept.

Elk County commissioners on Tuesday approved the purchase of a new radio console valued at over $200,000.
Michael A. McAllister, director of Elk County Emergency Management, reported Tuesday that the county's current console system has been rendered obsolete.
"Currently at the 911 Center, our radio console is a Motorola centracom console and it is over 20 years of age," McAllister said. "Last year we received our end-of-life letter notifying us that [Motorola] will no longer be supporting it and when parts are gone, they are no longer producing parts for it.
The Ridgway Township Board of Supervisors continued a discussion from a regular meeting in March concerning Marcellus Shale gas extraction site located near the Ridgway Reservoir as well as other drilling sites throughout the township.

RIDGWAY – A 75-year-old Ridgway man is charged with promoting prostitution, indecent assault and harassment after he allegedly fondled a woman inside the elevator of a Ridgway apartment building, before offering her money for sex.
