Patty Greene and her merry elves recently visited Elk Haven Nursing Home to spread some Christmas cheer by distributing blankets, stockings and other small gifts to elderly residents.
"The smiles on the people melted my heart, I lost my voice as I stood there all teary eyed watching as my gang full of love and good wishes walked down those halls," Greene said. "It was amazing and I was wishing that all of the people who opened up their hearts were there to witness what they helped me do."
When mentioning the Borough of Eldred in McKean County, many picture only the small community just over an hour north of St. Marys near the New York border. A group of students at St. Marys Area High School recently had the opportunity to see that the small community has a lot to offer, especially in terms of World War II history.
Located at 201 Main St. in Eldred is the Eldred WWII Museum and Learning Center.
"I was told about it 10 years ago by a fellow teacher, because I didn't know it existed either," said Paul Benjamin, co-advisor of the German Club at St. Marys Area High School.
RIDGWAY â€“ Seth Franco, a former Harlem Globetrotter, is returning to speak and perform some of his basketball tricks Jan. 15 at Awakening Alliance Church.
In 2003, Franco became a member of the Harlem Globetrotters, becoming the first Caucasian member since 1942.
