Wood burner appears to have caused garage fire

A garage fire early Wednesday morning is reportedly the result of a malfunctioning wood burner, according to Ridgway fire chief Scott Pontious.
The fire destroyed a garage located along the 100 block of Harrison Avenue in Ridgway.

Wygant steps down after 14 years as chief

John Wygant, former chief of the Ridgway Fire Department, has stepped down after 14 years at the helm.
Scott Pontious, formerly deputy chief, is now the new chief of the fire department.
Wygant, a 37-year veteran of the department having joined in 1976, will be 66 years old at the end of the month.
