St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney presented a budget update during the board's recent workshop.
Kearney stated that fiscally the district is in much better shape than many other districts.
St. Marys property tax levy is 32.35 mills, lower than that in Ridgway, Cameron County, DuBois, Bradford and Clearfield. Johnsonburg is the lowest levy of 30.80.
If taxes remain the same the district will collect just over $9.4 million next year in real estate tax.
The 2014 Business Expo is around the corner taking place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Red Fern in St. Marys featuring over 40 vendors.
Businesses representing numerous fields including contractors, energy representatives, educational, home-based businesses, manufacturing, insurance and health care, along with many more.
Once again the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the The River 98.9 in sponsoring the event.
"Last year over 1,500 people attended the Expo and 2014 promises to be even better," said Ashley O'Dell, Chamber outreach coordinator.
RIDGWAY – On Tuesday evening, Ridgway Area School District finance manager Brent Rhoads presented information to the board concerning costs and trends for the school district over the past several years.
The 2014-2015 budget is yet to be completed. However, according to Rhoads, district officials will not wait until the state budget is passed as it could be as late as July by the time figures come through.
"I just wanted to try to show some of the issues we have going on in our budget this year," Rhoads said.
