Fireworks display returns to golf course

The voters have spoken. The 2014 St. Marys Independence Day Celebration will be held at The Leaning Pines/The Highlands area, formerly the Country Club, on Thursday, July 3.
After a voting initiative created by the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event, area residents had the opportunity to cast their votes in an online survey or through a fundraising endeavor by choosing their favorite site via donation containers located at area businesses.
"We appreciate everyone's input and participation," said Ashley O'Dell, Chamber outreach coordinator.

Community Pool preparing for summer season

With the temperature rising and area youngsters counting down the days until the end of the school year, it is clear that it is almost summertime. One staple of summer for area residents is spending hot afternoons cooling off at the St. Marys Community Pool.
According to Pool Manager Greg Snelick, the wet weather this spring has made it difficult to complete some of the annual maintenance work at the facility, such as priming and painting, but the pool is on schedule to be filled today in advance of it opening for the season.

RASD to begin superintendent search

RIDGWAY – The Ridgway Area School Board of Directors approved the resignation of district superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien on Tuesday evening. It was moved by Dave Parsons and and seconded by Kathy Lampman that the board accept the resignation of O'Brien, effective Aug. 8, with regret. The motion was carried unanimously, aside from Gloria Almquist-Shull and Cindy Allegretto who were not present at the meeting.
