Bridge collapses under log truck

FOX TWP. – A bridge on a private driveway across from Blooms Road in Fox Township collapsed Monday afternoon under the weight of a logging truck crossing over Little Toby Creek.
Emergency responders were called shortly after 3:40 p.m. to the private drive located just north of 342 Toby Rd. in Fox Township for a report of a high mechanism traffic accident. Elk Company 3 (Fox Township Fire Department), Fox Township Ambulance and St. Marys Ambulance responded to the call.

City continues battle over stormwater ordinance

The fight to uphold the city's stormwater management ordinance continues as the city plans to submit revisions to their ordinance as suggested by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
St. Marys is the only Elk County municipality, as well as one of the very few municipalities in the DEP Northwest region, that has not adopted an ordinance specific to their county.
City Solicitor Tom Wagner plans to send the DEP a second revision of the city's ordinance as unanimously approved by St. Marys City Council during their Monday evening workshop.

Proclamation recognizes nursing profession

The City of St. Marys is honoring the work of registered nurses as part of National Nurses' Appreciation Week taking place May 6-12.
St. Marys Mayor Bob Howard presented a proclamation marking the event to Mary Ellen Smith, chief nursing officer at Penn Highlands Elk during Monday's City Council workshop.
The proclamation encourages the support and participation of all citizens to learn more about the caring profession of nursing.

Rep. Thompson visits St. Marys Army Reserve Center
