The 2014-15 St. Marys Area School District budget of $26,122,346 was unanimously approved by the school board.
"The great news for the community is there is no tax increase for the upcoming year," said Superintendent Ann Kearney. "Once again this is a budget that the district can be very proud of. We are in fiscally sound condition for the upcoming year. This is based on past decisions made by a very responsible board over the years."
This year's $26 million budget is an increase from the previously budgeted $25,264,867 in 2013-14.
RIDGWAY – Ridgway Area School District superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien offered a formal statement during Tuesday evening's school board meeting in order to address his recently-announced resignation. O'Brien will officially be leaving the district Aug. 8.
"It's hard to believe that three years have eclipsed so quickly," he said. "No words can articulate the deep appreciation I feel for the community and the opportunity to serve this wonderful district.
"As superintendent I have enjoyed a plethora of experiences that have allowed me to grow personally and professionally."
Ridgway’s Senior Center, located on Vine Avenue, is slowly but surely recovering after taking on roughly three feet of water during last month’s devastating flood. After losing much of what was inside, including just under three feet of the bottom portion of its inner walls, things are beginning to come together.
“We’re down here working, and hopefully next week our breakfast club will be able to start up again,” said executive director Harry Himes.
The center is beginning to replace some of the items lost in order to become fully operational.
