SMASD names new superintendent

After a lengthy and rigorous search the St. Marys Area School District board of directors approved the appointment of Dr. G. Brian Toth of Tyrone as the new superintendent.
During a special board meeting held Friday evening current SMAHS Principal Joshua Williams was unanimously approved as the assistant superintendent, a newly-created position unanimously approved by the board with a salary of $110,000.

During their special meeting Friday evening the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors named Karen Cataldo of East Berlin as the new South St. Marys Street Elementary School assistant principal.
Cataldo will begin her duties on Aug. 22 as she assists new SSMSE Principal Chrissy Kuhar, former principal at Bennetts Valley and Fox Township Elementary schools.
The newly created position carries a salary of $60,000.

Council tour area drilling rig operation

With the potential of a Marcellus Shale drilling well site in St. Marys' future, City Council members explored an active Elk County well site owned by Seneca Resources, Corp. on Thursday evening.
As part of the tour city officials took in live drilling rig operations, active pipeline construction and viewed a reclaimed well site from five years ago.
Plans are moving along for Seneca Resources' $10 million seismic testing plan in St. Marys with well plans yet to be determined.
