Groundbreaking held for downtown St. Marys hotel

The downtown St. Marys hotel project took a leap forward on Tuesday as a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the future site of Cobblestone Hotel and Suites, situated on the corner of Fourth and Depot streets.
The $6.5 million project is an endeavor spearheaded by local project developer Todd "Booka" Hanes of Creekside Hospitality which includes partners John Schatz, Mike Faulk and Dean Hanes.
Construction is slated to begin the first week of July with an anticipated opening the first week of January.

Ecklund trial scheduled to begin Thursday

RIDGWAY – A Ridgway man is set to go to trial at Elk County Courthouse on Thursday, June 5 on charges of statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors and indecent assault on a person less that 16 years of age.
Charges were filed in September 2013 against Brandon James Ecklund, 23, of 4236 Grant Rd., Ridgway. Police report that on Aug. 20, 2013, the victim's mother came into the Ridgway Borough Police station with her daughter, 14, to report that her daughter had had sex with Ecklund, who was 22 at the time.
