Members of the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors continued discussion on the next step to take on their search for a new superintendent during their Thursday evening workshop.
Board member Pat Rezmerski introduced a motion to list Josh Williams on the agenda for the board's Monday regular meeting to be hired as superintendent.
Business Manager Cindy Fingado stated Rezmerski's request was not possible because when electing a superintendent there are certain publication requirements in which a notice must be published five days in advance.
Several residents, City Council members and teachers were in attendance to show their support for the promotion of Josh Williams, current St. Marys Area High School principal, to superintendent during Thursday evening's St. Marys Area School District school board workshop.
Thomas Burdick voiced his disappointment in the school board for not hiring Williams as superintendent.
"As the remaining candidate for the job it all makes perfect sense to immediately take steps to secure Dr. Josh Williams as the superintendent for the St. Marys Area School District," Burdick said.
Firefighters, auxiliary members and area residents have been chipping in to clean up the Ridgway Firemen's Carnival Grounds following the May 21 flood that ravaged the area.
Water line stains on some of the structures at the grounds shows that the floodwaters were at least three to four feet high in some areas.
"You can just imagine how bad it was with the water line that high, everything was just flooded," said Keith Mader Jr., president of the Ridgway Fire Department.
