Emergency responders were at the scene of a crash Monday evening on Ridgway St. Marys Road (state Route 120) in Ridgway Township. Elk Company 4 (Ridgway Fire Department) and Ridgway Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. No additional information was available at press time.
On Sunday evening, roughly 100 people gathered at The Red Fern in Fox Township to celebrate the 172nd anniversary of the founding of Sancta Marienstadtâ€“St. Marysâ€“during the 52nd annual banquet of the Historical Society of St. Marys and Benzinger Township.
Each year, the historical society tries to hold the banquet on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the founding, which occurred Dec. 8, 1842.

Fox Township held its annual Light Up Night on Friday evening. This year the event was moved to a new, warmer location inside at the Fox Township Community Building. Santa arrived on a Christmas float featuring a winter scene complete with snowmobiles and escorted by Mrs. Claus and the Grinch. Inside the center children and their families enjoyed hot soup, cookies, hot chocolate and other more. Santa and Mrs. Claus gifted each child with a coloring book and a bag of goodies.
The flow of people into the Farmers National Bank in downtown St. Marys was fairly steady at times throughout the day on Friday. Instead of making deposits or withdrawals though, many were there to give out money to a worthy cause. The bank hosted the annual Make-A-Wish Day, which was also broadcast on area radio station The River 98.9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Clythera Hornung was named as the new president of the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors Thursday evening during their organizational meeting.
The regular meeting convened following the brief organizational meeting. Bob Luchini, outgoing board president, declined a nomination to continue as president.
According to Luchini, this was due to him having only one year left to serve in his term and he is unsure if he will seek re-election to the board.
The St. Marys Area School District will lose $65,630 in revenue as a result of a settlement agreement with Mersen USA regarding a property tax appeal by the company.
The appeal was filed due to the company's belief that it was being over-assessed based on the fair market value of their facility.
The appeal was filed in August 2013 for the company's 45-acre property on Trout Run Road in St. Marys, home to its carbon and graphite manufacturing facility. The plant employs 200 people locally.
The Christmas season is upon us and with that comes festively lit homes and businesses. Talented musicians and singers are taking center stage this holiday season throughout Elk County.
The Concert Choir of Elk County on Tuesday night presented their annual Christmas show entitled "Wreath of Carols" at St. Leo's. A followup performance is scheduled to be performed Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in St. Marys.
Directors for the choir include Gloria Almquist-Shull and Lois Sadley, along with accompanist Rita Ordiway assisted by Ann Ordiway.
