For the second consecutive year the Elk County Catholic School System is offering a summer camp program focusing in the areas of religion, academic, arts, music, sports and character building as a way to emphasize that learning is a lifelong process, not something that happens just nine months of the year while school is in session.
All students from throughout the area are invited to participate in the camps, all of which are instructed by ECCSS faculty.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Crews left the scene at approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning after battling a large fire at Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg for nearly 20 hours; the blaze broke out early Friday afternoon in a tunnel beneath the chip yard at the mill.
Domtar, which employs roughly 400 people, is functional as crews will manually transport wood chips to the plant rather than use the conveyor belt system.

According to Craig Timm, a media relations representative for Domtar, the fire broke out in the wood chip conveyor system.
RIDGWAY - After two years of talks, 12 bargaining sessions, fact-finding hearings and numerous closed-door discussions, Ridgway's school teachers and district are no closer to reaching a deal on teacher contracts.
In that time, the district's 78 teachers have been working to secure a new collective bargaining agreement with the district while renegotiating on line items like salaries and medical benefits.
"If there be a rainbow in the eve, it will rain and leave; but if there be a rainbow in the morrow It will neither lend nor borrow."
One positive result of the recent rainy weather has been the sighting of numerous rainbows.
The optical and meteorological phenomenas are caused by the reflection of light in water droplets resulting in a multicolor spectrum of light. One of the most picturesque spectacles in nature, rainbows have inspired countless legends, songs and fairy tales.
The Fox Township Supervisors plan to re-visit their use of facilities agreements for the township's Community Park and Community Building.
A response was recently received from township solicitor David Pontzer regarding the agreement forms. Pontzer was not in attendance at the meeting due to a scheduling conflict.
RIDGWAY â€“ Berkheimer Tax Services, the company appointed to replace fallen earned income tax collection giant CENTAX in Elk County is now also heading up collection of school taxes for the Ridgway Area School District (RASD).
Wednesday may have dawned overcast and rainy, but the Memorial Park staff decided to stick with their plans for Inner Park Day, and by the time signups were nearly complete the rain had stopped and the sun had begun to poke through the clouds. It may not have been the 75 degrees and sunshine that park staff had hoped for, but the rain stayed away for the rest of the event and a record turnout of around 320 youngsters between the ages of 5-14 showed up to spend an enjoyable day at the park.
FOX TWP. â€“ The Fox Township Supervisors unanimously approved several new business items at their Wednesday evening meeting, among them being a wetland mitigation permit, a request for use of equipment during the Elk County Fair and replacement of equipment.
RIDGWAY â€“ For the last two years, the Ridgway Area School District's 78 teachers have been working without a contract after a breakdown in talks between them and the district's Board of Directors.
The deadlock continued with Tuesday's meeting of the Board in which all nine of its members voted to reject the latest proposal presented to them by the teachers union.
