Organizers are prepared for their annual Go Topless Day scheduled for Saturday, May 14, as Jeep enthusiasts will help clean up the Allegheny National Forest.
The T-Bones Offroad Club is sponsoring the Litter Pickin' Jeep Ride and participants will start and finish at Sandy Beach Recreational Park in Ridgway Township.

The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors unanimously approved the proposed general fund budget for the 2011-12 school year during their regular meeting held Monday evening.
"I think this is a good budget. We've all tightened our belts and our programming is still in place," said Superintendent Ann Kearney.
She noted the 2011-12 budget of $23.6 million is actually less than this year's budget of just over $24 million.
The entire Fox Township Elementary school has joined together in finding a cure for childhood cancer, embarking on the Alex's Lemonade Stand project to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes.
"We decided to participate in the project in honor of Connor (Bobik)," explained fifth grade teacher and project organizer, Amanda Vollmer. "Now our efforts are focused on awareness, specifically the cause and finding a cure."
Among the many items approved by the Fox Township Supervisors during their most recent meeting were paving bids and the use of facilities.
The supervisors approved a request to use the community park for the Fox Township Farmer's Market taking place from 4-6 p.m. on Thursdays from June through October, weather permitting.
Debby Agosti, recreational facilities director, noted there have been changes for vendors. The change requires that vendors who sell baked goods must have produced them in a state-certified kitchen.

The first of two medicine collections scheduled to be held this year by the Elk County Recycling Office took place Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Education Center at Elk Regional Medical Center in St. Marys. Over 60 individuals had dropped off medicine by 11 a.m., a figure that Elk County Recycling/Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner was pleased with. She said she was also happy with the turnout, particularly since the sun was shining in Elk County on Saturday morning after a few weeks of rainy weather.
The Concert Choir of Elk County is revisiting the 1960s, the theme of their annual concert being held Thursday and Friday, May 12 and 13, and beginning at 6 p.m. at The Royal Inn in Ridgway.

Clad in jeans and tie-dyed T-shirts, concert crooners will transport the audience back to the groovy 60s during the show entitled "What a Wonderful World - Music of the 60s".

The St. Marys Walmart held its grand re-opening celebration Friday following a store redesign. A ribbon-cutting was held, and store associates presented $4,500 in grants from the Walmart Foundation to six local organizations: $250 for the Elk County Lions Club; $1,000 for the Fox Township Recreation Board; $1,000 to Keystone Elk Country Alliance; $1,000 to Mt. Zion Historical Society; $1,000 for Project Gifts for Elk County; and $250 to the Ridgway Area High School Yearbook Club.

During his sentencing hearing held Friday morning, Edward R. Kralik, 68, of St. Marys, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the June 2010 homicide of Clayton Lecker of St. Marys.
Elk County President Judge Richard Masson presided over the hearing, which took place in the main courtroom of the Elk County Courthouse in Ridgway, where many of Lecker's family members and friends were in attendance.
Pure Thirst, an organization founded by DuBois Central Catholic senior Matt Burnett and comprised of students from a number of area schools, successfully completed its goal earlier this year of raising $28,500 for the construction of a water filtration system in El Jaral, Honduras. Now the students are working to raise enough money to allow several of them to embark on a week-long mission trip to El Jaral on June 18 to dedicate the system and participate in service work throughout that community.
According to Matt Burnett, the water filtration system itself will cost roughly $22,500.

St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney reviewed the proposed budget for the 2011-12 school year during the SMASD Board of Directors workshop held Thursday evening.
Kearney began by explaining the reserve funds, specifically why the district's budgeted numbers and actual numbers may be different.
"We don't have the exact numbers because the state changes them and we have to estimate our earned income," Kearney said.
