Jay Twp. public service providers get natural gas impact fee

JAY TWP. - In November of 2012, Jay Township received some $70,000 in natural gas impact fee money through Pennsylvania's Act 13 legislation.
While the supervisors previously approved use of the funds for the purchase of a $50,000 truck and creation of a $5,000 bridge project fund, a unanimous decision on how much township entities would receive has continuously eluded the board.

St. Marys family reflects on experience during Boston Marathon bombing

After completing her first Boston Marathon, St. Marys resident Molly Quesenberry had a strong feeling that she wanted to see her family as soon as possible.
"I just really wanted to see my family. I missed them. I didn't want to stick around," Molly said, referring to how many marathoners gather at the finish line to support their fellow runners.

Man arraigned in Clarion teen's abduction

The man charged in the disappearance of a 13-year-old Clarion girl, safely returned after police in South Dakota stopped a car carrying the two, was arraigned in a Rapid City courtroom last week on charges that he drove the teen across state lines "for the purpose of engaging in unlawful sexual activity" with her.

Sneaker drive continues to grow at SMAMS

Beat 73 was the motto for this year's St. Marys Area Middle School's sneaker drive campaign and their school community did just that by collecting a total of 100 sneakers.
The school works closely with community sneaker drive organizer Albert Assalone on the project for the second consecutive year.

JAY TWP. - Thursday's meeting of the Jay Township Board of Supervisors included an urging of the board to voice its objection to EQT Resources' plan to drill for natural gas adjacent to the Byrne's Run Watershed and institute a five year moratorium on watershed drilling in the township.

ST. MARYS – Police were called to a St. Marys home late Thursday night when a burglary turned into a violent encounter between the homeowner and an intruder reportedly high on the stimulant drug known as bath salts.

Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., a student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and suspect in Monday's Boston Marathon bombings, local law enforcement officials on Friday shared their thoughts with the search and the differences in such practices in the immediate area.

A manhunt is currently underway in Massachusetts as police search for the second suspect believed to have been involved in the Boston Marathon bombing. Police recently released an updated photo of that individual, who is identified as 19 year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The other suspect, identified as 26 year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was reportedly killed last night after a shootout with police in Watertown. The suspects are reportedly brothers. According to police, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is considered to be armed and dangerous.
