After being looked over by a structural engineer while police officials from Ridgway Borough and the Ridgway-based state police concluded investigations, owner Ed Aiello said Thursday night he is confident that the fire-damaged building at 205 Main St. in downtown Ridgway will remain standing.
Trooper Greg Agosti, a fire marshal for the Pennsylvania State Police, completed the investigation Wednesday and reported that the cause of the fire was determined to be an overheated electrical outlet located in apartment 2B on the second floor of the 3-story brick building.

RIDGWAY – Officials announced Wednesday morning that a deal between Elk County officials and the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC] may be imminent as the Industrial Technical Education Center [ITEC] building hangs in the balance.
During a joint meeting between members of the St. Marys City Council and St. Marys Planning Commission to discuss ways to protect certain community resources, such as the water supply, from oil and gas drilling, the creation of a new Water Resource Protection Zone was proposed.
Now in her second year working at St. Marys Area High School, Certified Athletic Trainer Ashley Mulcahy, 25, is working to keep Dutch athletes in top physical shape by helping to prevent and diagnose injuries, provide rehabilitation and monitor their condition.
"I chose to go into the athletic training field because I think it's a nice combination of athletics and medicine," Mulcahy said.
March marks National Athletic Training Month as recognized by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), through which Mulcahy is accredited.
Elk County recycling/solid waste coordinator Bekki Titchner announced during the Elk County Solid Waste Authority meeting on Tuesday afternoon that the group has registered its three upcoming tire collections through the Great American Cleanup of PA.
The authority had previously discussed the matter during their February meeting; however, at that time they were uncertain as to the dates and times that the collections would be held.

Long-time Elk County Solid Waste Authority member Wendell Lion announced his resignation from the group during its monthly meeting Tuesday afternoon. Elk County Recycling/Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner indicated that Lion, a resident of St. Marys, has served on the board for over 20 years.
For his part, Lion attributed his age as the major reason behind his resignation.
The cast and crew of the St. Marys Area High School's musical, "Beauty and the Beast," are putting the finishing touches on a "tale as old as time." The first performance will take place on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
Additional show times of the Disney production are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evening, also at 7 p.m, inside the high school's Carpin Auditorium. A special Saturday matinee is being held at 2 p.m., where any child under the age of 12 dressing as a Disney character will receive half off their ticket cost.
The committee of City Solicitor Mark Jacob, St. Marys Planning Commission member Matt Quesenberry, City Zoning Officer Matt Pfeufer and City Councilman Dan Hepner presented recommendations regarding how the city can move forward to regulate future oil and gas drilling in certain areas of the city to a joint meeting of city council and the planning commission on Tuesday evening.
The committee came up with the following recommendations:
The Elk County Conservation District recently received two grants to help fund the Elk County Monitoring Project.
The district received a grant for $146,000 from the Colcom Foundation and $65,000 from the Stackpole Hall Foundation.
The monitoring project is designed to keep an eye on stream conditions in the wake of the Marcellus Shale drilling. The total project cost for the 4-year program is estimated at $329,330.
A recent blood and bone marrow registry drive held in honor of Penfield resident George "Pizza" Pirraglia was so successful that another event has been scheduled for April. The upcoming blood and bone marrow registry drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 at the Grange building in Penfield. As before, it is being organized by the American Red Cross; DKMS Bone Marrow Center; Hahne Regional Medical Center; DuBois Regional Medical Center; and friends of Pirraglia.
