ST. MARYS - Recently, the North Central Workforce Investment Board, the Community Education Council of Elk and Cameron Counties and Elk County Catholic High School jointly hosted a parent information session entitled, â€śCareer Planning for Your Child.â€ť
With a major job and job-training shift taking place all throughout America, it is critical that parents and students understand this shift and its implications. The session focused on parents being involved in helping their children make career choices.
In less than one week, three different trash sites have been located on the Elk State Forest.Â The sites were located close to Emporium, within seven miles: Canoe Run Road, Four Mile Road and Crooked Run Road. The sites' content was varied: food wrappings and paper, old computer parts and finally, housewares.Â
WILLIAMSVILLE, NY â€“ National Fuel offers customers the following information should they experience flooding in their basements:
â€˘ Â If flooding has affected a customerâ€™s natural gas appliances (furnaces, hot water tanks, etc.), they should not attempt to re-light the pilot lights on that equipment. If furnace or hot water tank controls were submerged, the floodwater may have caused damage that could
affect the safe operation of the equipment. A qualified contractor should be called to inspect the appliances.
HARRISBURG â€“ Local Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) can coordinate shelter or find services for older Pennsylvanians during Hurricane Sandy.Â Residents are encouraged to visit www.aging.state.pa.us or call 1-800-490-8505 to be connected with an AAA in their local area.
AAAs are the local representatives of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. They carry out many programs such as:
Home-delivered meals; Family caregiver support; home services; Assistance for individuals with finding residential living and domiciliary care; and
DuBOIS â€“ Students on the Penn State DuBois THON committee will host a Kid's Day fundraising event from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, at the DuBois Mall. All children and their parents and guardians are invited to attend and have fun, while making a positive impact in the battle against childhood cancer.
HARRISBURG â€“ When sunny days and fall foliage tempt the boater in you, donâ€™t forget about your life jacket, especially if you are planning to use a canoe, kayak or similar small boat.
Beginning Nov. 1 and lasting through April 30, boaters are required to wear a life jacket while under way or at anchor on boats less than 16 feet in length or any canoe or kayak, under a new state regulation passed in September by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC).

researchers, who found that people's satisfaction with life was higher on
days when they exercised more than usual.
"We found that people's satisfaction with life was directly impacted by
their daily physical activity," said Jaclyn Maher, graduate student in
kinesiology. "The findings reinforce the idea that physical activity is a
health behavior with important consequences for daily well-being and
