Red Cross has downloadable apps for Hurricane Sandy

DuBois - The free Red Cross Hurricane App for mobile devices provides real-time hurricane safety information such as weather alerts and where Red Cross shelters are located. The app also features a toolkit with a flashlight, strobe light and alarm, and the one-touch “I’m Safe” button lets someone use social media outlets to tell family and friends they are okay.

Hurricane Sandy set to hit East Coast this weekend

With Hurricane Sandy set to hit the East Coast late Sunday, state and local agencies and area residents are preparing for what might happen.
Governor Tom Corbett on Friday declared a statewide disaster emergency in advance of Hurricane Sandy to enable state, county and municipal governments to respond effectively to what is anticipated to be a significant impact.

Gas prices down 9 cents in Western Pa.

The current average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline in Western PA is $3.781, down 9 cents per gallon from a week ago.
This week’s average prices: Western PA Average: $3.781; Average price during the week of October 16, 2012 - $3.871; Average price during the week of October 25, 2011 -  $3.480. Today’s National Average Price - $3.648.

SR 255 roadwork shutting down for the winter

ST. MARYS – Work to improve Route 255 in Fox Township and St. Marys is shutting down for the winter, and all lanes between Greenbriar Drive and Tractor Supply are now open.

Komen Pittsburgh affiliate participating in Steelers' memorabilia auction

PITTSBURGH - In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pittsburgh Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is participating in a charity auction featuring 46 items of Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins memorabilia. After the auction ends Saturday, October 27, at 10 p.m., Total Sports Enterprise will donate all proceeds from the auction to the Komen Pittsburgh Affiliate.

Don't fall for phony IRS websites

The Internal Revenue Service is issuing a warning about a new tax scam that uses a website that mimics the IRS e-Services online registration page.
If you find a suspicious website that claims to be the IRS, send the site’s URL by email to phishing@irs.gov. Use the subject line, 'Suspicious website'.

Temporary bridge in Penfield set to open

The temporary bridge in Penfield was built through Joanie Georgino’s side yard and very close to her front yard. One would think with all the truck traffic through there that it would be very noisy. Joanie said, “No, just the opposite. Due to the good construction of the temporary road, it is quieter than the old road.”

Trick or Treat Night in the Township is Wednesday, October 31 from 6 until 8 pm. Children are invited to a hayride to the park for treats, hot dogs and a drink.
St. Boniface School will hold a homemade soup sale.  There will be spaetzel, vegetable beef, Italian wedding and mushroom barley.  Please call the school at 885-8093 to place an order by Tuesday, October 30.  Pickup will be after all Masses the weekend of November 3/4. There will also be a soup social after 5 p.m. Mass Saturday, November 3 with soup, salad, sandwich, dessert and drinks.
