Freda M. Fox, 85, formerly of 434 Pattison St., St. Marys, died Friday, April 20, 2012 in the Mountain Laurel Nursing Home, Clearfield.
Born Oct. 2, 1926 in Olean, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lena Woefel Silvis and was raised by the late Michael and Mary Heigel.Â
On March 28, 1946, in Brockway, she married James L. Fox, who preceded her in death on June 27, 2002.
She attended St. Marys High School and had been employed at Sylvania and later at Keystone and Hour Glass Cleaners.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and St. Anne Society.
Jeffrey J. (Dad) Erich, 51, of Maple Ave., Ridgway, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at home, in the arms of his wife, leaving behind many broken hearts.
He was born Jan. 27, 1961, in Ridgway, the son of John and Judith Shipe Erich of Kersey.
He graduated from St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1979. He was employed at Morgan AM&T. He was an avid reader, and he was a big Steelers fan.
Joseph D. Stidd, 53, of St. Marys, formerly of Bradford, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Bradford Manor.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1958 in Bradford, the son of Audrey B. Fiori Stidd and the late Daniel M. Stidd.
He was a 1976 graduate of the Bradford Area High School.
He was a United States Army veteran who served from 1976 to 1979.
He was employed by DeLullo Trucking, St. Marys, as a heavy equipment mechanic.
Walter E. Biel, 91, of 3712 Wilcox Rd., Wilcox, died Thursday morning, April 19, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born on Feb. 20, 1921 in Portage, son of the late John E. and Anna Biel Biel. On Dec. 28, 1939, he married Elsie Marie Jordan Austin; she preceded him in death March 11, 1973.
He resided in Wilcox most of his life and attended Wilcox schools. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Rasselas, and the Wilcox Sportsmen's Club. He was an avid woodsman, hunter and fisherman. He loved vegetable and flower gardening and bowling.
Edith P. Zambanini, 103, of Ridgway, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Elk Haven Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 11, 1908, in Byrnedale, the daughter of the late Arthur and Angeline Ronca Busatto. On July 5, 1925, she married Senatore Zambanini; he predeceased her in 1980.
She was a member of St. Leoâs Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed playing cards, bingo and going to the casino.
Eugene R. "Herbie" Tassone, 86, of 526 Penn St., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1925 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Salvatore "Sam" and Ellen Vavala Tassone. On April 26, 1952, in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Agnes Gapinski, who survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and was a 1944 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Holy Name Society, Johnsonburg Senior Center, and the Knights of Columbus.
Francis X. âFrankâ Straub, 76, of 123 Terrace Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 2, 1935 in St. Marys, son of the late Frank E. and Marguerite (Peg) Bender Straub.
Ruth Baumgratz Hasselman, 80, of 185 Center St., St. Marys, died at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys on Wednesday morning, April 18, 2012, of polycythemia vera.
She was born Aug. 25, 1931 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Barbara Skok Heiberger.
Ruth's ï¬rst husband was Regis "Daisy" Baumgratz, whom she married June 8, 1957, died on July 13, 1993. Her second husband was Richard Hasselman, whom she married on Feb. 23, 2001; he preceded her in death Aug. 17, 2010.
Ronald C. Ecklund, 73, of 668 Washington Rd., St. Marys, died Tuesday morning, April 17, 2012, at Elk Regional Health Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 3, 1939 in Ridgway, son of the late Charles M. and Martha L. (Fischer) Ecklund. On Nov. 11, 1983, he married Ann Werner Ecklund, who survives.
Elizabeth C. "Elsie" Desjardins, 87, of 100 Forest Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
She was born Jan. 5, 1926 in Neunkirchen, Germany, a daughter of the late Martin and Ella Scheer Kraeber.
Mrs. Desjardins was a member of the St. Mary's Church.Â She retired from Pure Carbon after many years of service.Â She enjoyed playing cards and reading.
She was married to the late Francis R. Fodge, who preceded her in death in 1986.Â She was then preceded in death by her second husband, Gerard R. Desjardins, in 1988.
