August 14th
Harriette Ann Pike Elmquist Eozzo, 83, formerly of St Marys, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 in central Pennsylvania, where she had been residing for the past several years.
She was born July 23, 1929 in Kalamazoo Mich., the daughter of the late Frank and Loretta Pike.
Harriette had moved to central Pa. to be closer to her adopted family for her remaining years. She loved the Holy Land and had made eight trips during her lifetime to Israel.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Pond; and a sister, Lorreta Paolello.
Catherine Franz, of 413 Allenhurst Ave., Ridgway, died peacefully at home on Aug. 13, 2012. She was 83 years old.
The great joy in Cathy’s life was her children, and she was blessed to have four children near her side as she passed into heaven: Chip Franz of Raleigh, N.C., Mark “Rusty” Franz of Ridgway, Tammi Rossi, formerly of Ridgway and now residing in Kutztown, and Candi Gross of Sykesville.
Nancy J. Nissel, 75, of 230 Louis St., died on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh following an illness of the past several months.
She was born May 6, 1937 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Alfred "Showy" and Frances "Pat" Meyer Gleixner. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1956.
On May 25, 1957 in the St. Mary's Church, she married Ronald C. Nissel who preceded her in death on March 25, 2007.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
August 13th
Helen M. Cornelio, 89, of Clearwater, Fla., died on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012.
She was born on March 9, 1923 in Fairmont, W. Va., daughter of the late Carmella and Ottavio Cornelio.
Following graduation, she worked at Sylvania for many years. She relocated to Puerto Rico, where she retired from the Navy Exchange and moved to Florida.
She like playing bingo and going to the casino. She loved her cats.
August 12th
Leo Panighetti, 87, of Cherry Avenue, Weedville, died on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at home following a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 10, 1925 in Byrnedale son of the late James Vincent and Mary (Rotonda) Panighetti.
He married Ethel I. (Llewellyn) on April 10, 1947. She survives.
He attended Bennetts Valley Schools and lived all his life in Bennetts Valley.
August 9th
Taylor N. Schutz, 15, of 1265 Taylor Rd., St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh following injuries sustained in an ATV accident.
She was born Feb 9, 1997 in St. Marys, a daughter of Robert Schutz and Jessica Taylor Schutz, who survive.
Helen M. (Sis) Rohr, 89, of 514 Kearsarge Ave., Ridgway, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 8, 2012 at the home of her son in Ridgway following an illness of the last four months.
She was born Aug. 3, 1923 in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Persohn) Stritzinger. She married Theodore F. Rohr on Aug. 23, 1952; he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1999.
August 8th
Esther M. Longo, 83, of Mill Run, Penfield, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at her residence.
She was born on April 4, 1929 in Caledonia, daughter of the late Alfonse Facchine and Elizabeth (Baruffalo) Facchine. She married Donato “Choppy” Longo, who preceded her in death. Â
August 6th
Leno A. Serafini Sr., 86, of Wayne Road in DuBois, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012 at his daughter’s home in Treasure Lake.
He was born on June 15, 1926 in Cardiff, Pa., to the late Joseph and Teresa (Calliari) Serafini. He was married to Josephine (Ogiba) Serafini for 32 years. She preceded him in death on June 1, 1992. He then married Mary (Reed) Serafini. She preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 2005.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Keystone Carbon Company in St. Marys after 40 years of service.
August 5th
William “Bill” Rio, 86, of Bennetts Valley Highway in Penfield, died on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at the DuBois Nursing Home following a short illness.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1925 in Tyler, son of the late Giacmo and Anna (Kovalick) Rio.
He married Olga (Kematick) on Aug. 21, 1948. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2009.
Mr. Rio was born and raised in Tyler and lived most of his life in Penfield. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Rockwell International of DuBois.
