Willis G. Smith, 85, of 1678 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 30, 1928, in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph E. and Dorothy M. Gleixner Smith.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He was a retired supervisor at Sylvania for many years.
On Nov. 18, 1952, in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Grace A. Taylor, who preceded him in death on June 23, 2001.
Grady J. Cherry of 257 Rasselas Rd., Wilcox, died on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 in DuBois, the son of Stephen and Heather Tressler Cherry.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Johnsonburg.
Grady James fought for nine days for his family to get to know him. He was brave and determined and never gave up until the last moment. He is God's angel and proved that miracles really do happen even if they only last nine days.
Gary A. Meyer, 61, of 500 Elm St., Weedville, and formerly of St. Marys, died on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center after battling a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug 16, 1952 in St. Marys, a son of Rita M. Erich Meyer, who survives, and the late James E. Meyer.
On Feb. 13, 1996, he married Jeanne Wicks Meyer, who survives.
Gary was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from St. Marys Area High School.
Dolores M. Pfaff, 95, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 523 Armory Rd., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at the Pinecrest Manor after an illness of the past several months.
She was born Sept. 17, 1919, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline Fritz Schloder. On June 3, 1941, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married William L. Pfaff, and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1980.
Elaine Samick Nace, 54, of Bryn Mawr, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Bryn Mawr Hospital.
She was born March 26, 1959 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Maurice and Rita Samick.
After leaving her hometown of St. Marys, Elaine attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, where she met her husband during their freshman year. After graduation as a medical technologist, she went on to receive a post-graduate degree in Law and began a career in healthcare law and compliance. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling, hiking, reading, and cooking.
Karen G. Spence, 56, of Pine Township, died Nov. 14, 2013.
Karen was an all around volunteer at St. Alexis where she ran the Certificate Program, coordinated the festival games, was a homeroom mother, helped with Girl Scouts, vacation bible camp, Junior Achievement, book fair, flea market, cafeteria and playground supervisor.
She enjoyed vacationing and exploring the western national parks with her family and spending time with her kids, traveling, photography and gardening. She will be greatly missed.
Thomas A. Reed, 60, a longtime resident of St. Marys, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 20, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he had more recently resided.
Born June 30, 1953 in St. Marys, he was the son of John Z. and Angela C. Herzing Reed.
Although mentally disabled, he graduated from St. Marys High School.
He is survived by a niece, Ellen Reed of Horseheads, N.Y.; a nephew, Jason Reed of Penn Yan, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Emily Reed of Horseheads.Â Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Freda M. Frank Dunworth, 96, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, formerly of 329 Mill St., Johnsonburg, died Thursday morning, Nov. 21, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 28, 1917 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late William and Mattie Falkenberg Frank.
She married Harold Dunworth on May 8, 1935 in Mayville, N.Y. He died April 6, 1976.
George R. Zamboldi, 84, of Linden, Mich., died November 19, 2013.
He was born April 20, 1929 in New Bethlehem, the son of the late Joseph and Angelina (Berti) Zamboldi.
He was educated at the St. Marys schools and attended Duquesne University on a football scholarship. He proudly served his country in the army during the Korean conflict, in counter intelligence. He was employed for many years at Airco Speer Carbon Company in St. Marys, and then started his own manufacturers rep company.
Vincent J. â€śPotatoâ€ť Olewnik, 82, Chestnut Avenue, Force, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 28, 1931 in Force, son of the late Stanley and Mary (Visneski) Olewnik. On April 27, 1957 in St. Joseph's Church, DuBois, he married Germaine (Zukauskas), she survives.
