Margaret E. "Peg" Krellner, 95, of 1570 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Nov. 30, 1917 in Transfer, a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Gaede Cooney.
Following the death of her mother when Peg was six, she and her younger sister Kathryn and baby brother John lived with Cooney relatives in Genessee. After graduating from Genessee High School, Krellner moved to St. Marys to live with her aunt, Marguerite Wolfe.
David R. Hetrick, 87, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Byrnedale, died very suddenly early Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at DRMC West.
He was born Nov. 20, 1927 in Byrnedale, son of the late Russell J. and Hilda L. (Johnson) Hetrick. On Aug. 22, 1953 he married Alvera J. Facchine, who survives.
He lived all his life in Bennetts Valley and was a graduate of Weedville High School, Class of 1946.
He served in the U.S. Army during and after WWII (1946-1948) in Alaska, receiving the rank of Tech 4.
Robert Grant Conrad, 87, of 49 Brookside Lane, Brookville and previously of New Bethlehem, died at the Brookside Senior Living Center on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013.
He was born April 7, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Earl Ovid and Susan Reichel Conrad. On May 23, 1949 he married Mary Mielke of Wampum, who preceded him in death in June 2003.
Mr. Conrad was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He was employed as a teacher at Redbank Valley High School for 26 years until his retirement in 1978.
Rosemary A. "Rosie" Brendel, 88, of 479 W. Creek Rd., St. Marys, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.
She was born April 11, 1924 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Philip and Mary Wolfe Lecker. On Aug. 28, 1949, in the St. Mary's Church, she married Raymond C. Brendel, who survives.
Ernest C. "Ernie" Baughman, 85, of 116 Gerber Rd., St. Marys, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at his residence.
He was born May 2, 1927, in Shippenville, son of the late Alfred and Muriel Wingard Baughman. On May 15, 1948, in St. Marys, he married Bertha L. Gerber, who survives.
He had also made his home with his aunt and uncle, Robert and Mertyl Kirkland. He attended schools in Hallton and Mundorf. He had worked for Brockway Glass and retired from Stackpole Carbon Co., where he had worked for 38 years, and drove school bus for more than 50 years.
Georgiana Louise Simchick, 65, of 1625 Bendigo Rd., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 23, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 29, 1947 in Ridgway, daughter of George and the late Mary Chupa Cherry.
She married Richard Simchick on Jan. 29, 1966 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg; he survives.
William B. Weis, 83, of 634 Evergreen Rd., St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Cleveland Clinic after a brief illness. He was born May 26, 1929 in St. Marys, son of the late Leander [Lee] and Marian Ryan Weis. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, class of 1947. In his early years he had worked for the FBI, then served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. After the service he worked for the Stackpole Carbon Co. for 30 years and then founded the Penn Metal Stamping in 1978 and retired from the company in n1994.
Alfred E. Shippling, 81, of 721 Evergreen Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Adolph and Luisa Granitza Shippling. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, class of 1949. He also graduated Williamsport Technical Institute in 1956. He was a retired employee of the Keystone Carbon Co., retiring in 1995 after over 35 years of service.
Thomas L. Young, 75, of Clearfield went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born on July 11, 1937 in St. Marys, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Andrus) Young.
Christopher Matthew Riley, 17, of Ash St., Ridgway, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Childrenâ€™s Hospital in Pittsburgh from complications from the flu.
He was born Jan. 31, 1995 in St. Marys, the son of Julie and Shawn Laughner of Ridgway, and Mark and Maria Riley of Johnsonburg.
Chris was a senior at Ridgway Area High School. He was a hard worker. He held three paper routes since he was 11 and recently started working at Aielloâ€™s CafĂ© as a dishwasher. He was a typical teenage boy. He loved to hang out with all of his friends and his girlfriend, Alexandria Hill.
