Joan M. "Joni" Thompson, 67, of 109 Hemlock Ln., Kersey, died on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born June 28, 1946 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Sabatini Snyder.
On June 6, 1970 in Dagus Mines, she married Roger Thompson, who survives.
Emma L. Anderson, 80, of 1123 South Michael Rd., St. Marys, died at her home on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 11, 1933 in Dagus Mines, a daughter of the late Charles and Lillian Colson Anderson.
She was a lifelong resident of the area.Â She was an avid reader and enjoyed taking long hikes in the woods.Â Together with her lifelong companion Pete, they frequented and enjoyed their friends at many local restaurants, including the Hilltop, the Corner Restaurant, the Benezette Store and Monica's.Â
Paul W. Malone, 68, died early Friday morning, Aug. 30, 2013, at his Hickory Road home in St. Marys. He died of complications from an aggressive form of lymphoma.
He was born on Friday, Sept. 8, 1944 in St. Marys, son of the late William and Pauline (Horning) Malone. He married Mary Geyer on Aug. 21, 1970 at St. Boniface Church in Kersey and they just observed their 43rd wedding anniversary. They are the parents of three children and five grandchildren. His family was present for his final days.
Vertie M. Stewart, 78, of Oak Manor on Chestnut St., St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 3, 1934 in Mountain City, Tenn., a daughter of the late Lacy and Sara Edna Stewart.
John D. â€śJackâ€ť Bowser, 69, of 312 John Street, St. Marys, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born December 9, 1943 in Detroit, Mich., son of the late Thomas Bowser and Agnes Schriner Bowser.
He was a graduate of DuBois High School, Class of 1962 and had been a resident of St. Marys since 1991. He retired from the US Air Force in 1984, and was a former employee of American Protective Services and Walmart.
In May of 1993, in DuBois, he married Mary M. Chase, who survives.
Marie G. Ginther, 66, of 244 Fairview Road, Kersey, died while surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at the Clearfield Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born July 1, 1947 in St. Marys, daughter of the late John â€śBuddyâ€ť Gradl and Georgia Beimel Gradl, who survives, of Kersey. On October 10, 1970, in the St. Boniface Church, she married David F. Ginther, who survives.
Alvin E. Shutters Jr., 52, of Caledonia Road, Weedville, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 20, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born May 18, 1961 in Ridgway, son of the late Alvin E. Shutters Sr. and Freda Alice (Thacher) Shutters, who survives.
In 1979, he married Carrie (Aul) Shutters, who survives.
He lived most of his life in Bennetts Valley. He was a graduate of St. Marys High School and attended Penn State University.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1983-1987.
Emanuel Joseph â€śCoonieâ€ť Pretti, 77, of Shady Lane, Penfield, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013 at home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 5, 1935 in Force, son of the late Tullio and Flora (Fedrizzi) Pretti.
On May 16, 1959, he married Janet (Bruni), and she survives.
He was a lifelong resident of Bennetts Valley and graduated from Huston Township High School.
He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves from 1957-1963.
He worked with Stackpole Carbon, B&O Railroad, Pace Tool & Die and retired from PennDOT as Highway Foreman.
James E. Reiter, 85, of Brownell Drive, Rasselas, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 17, 1928 in Philipsburg, son of the late James Earl and Jean (Price) Reiter Sr.
On May 2, 1948 he married Naoma (Thompson), and she survives.
He was born and raised in Philipsburg and has lived in Rasselas since 1973. He was a graduate of Philipsburg High School, Class of 1946.
He served in U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1948 with a Seaman Apprentice, Music Striker rating.
Burch D. Challingsworth, 69, of Conneaut Lake, died at home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 19, 2013.
He was born in DuBois on June 30, 1944, a son of the late Harvey and Zerda Marie Burch Challingsworth.Â
He married Ruth I. Gardner on August 17, 1963 and she survives.
