Robert G. Wittman, 68, formerly from Dagus Mines, died Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was the son of the late Edwin L. and Alice Stauffer Wittman.
He was a Vietnam veteran serving with the 101st Airborne Division and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by three daughters, one son, grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by a sister, Janice (Russ) Roan of Avis; and two brothers, James, St. Louis, Mo., and Mark of Dagus Mines. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou.
Martha E. Cheatle, 86, of 235 Muenster Rd., St. Marys, died on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Pinecrest Manor following a brief illness.
She was born on Feb. 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Horace and Martha McGill Horning.
On Aug. 31, 1947 in Emporium Methodist Church, she married Charles L. Cheatle, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Martha was a member of the Presbyterian Church and worked briefly at Sylvania until she became a homemaker.Â She loved crocheting, playing cards and cooking.Â She was the last member of her immediate family.
Batiste T. "Kack" Franco, 85, of 6478 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Johnsonburg, died Sunday morning, July 13, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1928 in Johnsonburg, son of Batiste and Frances Sirianni Franco.
On Oct. 31, 1950, he married Stephana C. "Steffie" LaFarr in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, and she survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1946.
Paul J. Grieggs, 77, of 232 Monterey Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly on Sunday evening, July 13, 2014.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1936 in St. Marys, a son of the late Thomas and Anna Francis Grieggs.
On May 9, 1958 in St. Leo Church, he married Inez Magrini Grieggs, who survives.
Paul was a lifelong resident of the area, and a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1954. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Keystone Carbon Company after more than 35 years of service. He was a member of the Elks and enjoyed gardening and sitting on his porch swing.
Brian C. Holterback, 24, of 151 Coal Hollow Rd., Kersey, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 13, 2014 in Ridgway.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1989, a son of Gerard Holterback of Kersey and Tammy Gunter Woodward, of St. Marys.
Brian enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycles. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his son.
Cecilia Miriam Prechtl, 78, of St. Marys, died at home surrounded by her family Monday, July 14, 2014.
Cecilia was born Feb. 18, 1936 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Dorothy Simbeck and Jerome Nicklas. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools.
On Dec. 15, 1951, she married her husband Albert in the Sacred Heart Church. Cecilia and her husband were the owners of Elk Cameron Bus Lines, St. Marys Equipment Company, Inc., and Eagle Express Trucking, Inc.
Daniel A. Thorwart, 83, of 2720 Wilcox Road, Johnsonburg, died Saturday night, July 12, 2014, at the Lutheran Home at Kane following a short illness.
He was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Ridgway, son of the late Luke J. and Johanna E. Polaski Thorwart.
On Jan. 27, 1951, he married Virginia Shaffer by Fr. John A. Kirk and she survives
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1948.
Laura J. Thiry, 97, Johnsonburg, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Lutheran Home in Kane after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 21, 1916 in Clarion County, daughter of the late Merle and Pearl Wolfe.
She was married to Edward A. Thiry he preceded her in death in 2002.
Laura was Methodist by faith. She loved to play the board game â€śSorry.â€ť
Bernard A. Goodreau Jr., 81, of 72 Erie Ave., Apt. 203, St. Marys, died Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 24, 1932 in St. Marys, son of the late Bernard and Rosella McQuone Goodreau Sr.
In addition to St. Marys, he had also resided in Johnsonburg from 1955 until 2008. He attended St. Marys public schools and retired from Pure Carbon Company in 1995.
On Oct. 1, 1955 in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Louise â€śPattyâ€ť Simchick, who preceded him in death.
William O. McCamey, 68, of 702 Market St., Johnsonburg, died on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Penn Highlands DuBois following a short illness.
He was born on June 6, 1946, in Franklin, a son of the late William and Helen Lundgren McCamey.Â He enjoyed hunting and fishing and a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by a daughter, Ashley McCamey, of Michigan; a brother, Robert McCamey and his fiancee Wanda Meyer of St. Marys, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
