Gustavo G. â€śGinoâ€ť Scacchitti, 93, 1072 East Eschbach Road, St. Marys, died unexpectedly Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born January 22, 1921 in Carapelle Calvisio, Lâ€™Aquila, Italy, son of the late Domenico and Santa DeiPietrantonio Scacchitti. He attended school in Italy and moved to St. Marys in 1939. He was a retired employee of Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring in 1986 after 44 years of service.
David W. Kahl, a resident of Monongahela, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 in Monongahela after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 19, 1947 in Monongahela, son of Dorothy Broadhead Kahl of Monongahela and the late William D. Kahl, who died in 1983.
He was a 1965 graduate of Monongahela High School and a 1970 graduate of Penn State University with Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in General Arts and Sciences degrees. He served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.
Marie T. Gausman, 91, of 276 N. St. Marys St., St. Marys, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born on May 19, 1923, a daughter of the late Fred and Margaret Krug Gausman.
Marie was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1941. She retired from Keystone Carbon Company after more than 30 years of service. She enjoyed watching game shows and cooking shows.
Raymond K. Ferris, 58, of Rock Springs, Wyo., and formerly of St. Marys and Grampian, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at his home.
He was born March 26, 1956, son of the late Robert E. and Anna M. (Illerbrun) Ferris.
Raymond was employed by R & M Welding until he became disabled in June 2012.
John E. Zook, 77, of 307Â W. Hemlock Ave., Kane, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born Sept. 11, 1936, in Kane, he was a son of the late John E. and Ruth Gilbert Zook. On Dec. 26, 1959 in Kane, he married Sandra Orcutt who survives.
John, a well-known Kane businessman, was the owner of Zook Motors which is one of Kane's oldest businesses. He was very active andÂ community-minded and was always there to help or give to the community in so many different ways. Zook Motors could always be counted on when a cause was at hand and money had to be raised.Â
Doris J. "Dorie" McAlee, 84, of 627 First Ave., Johnsonburg, died Tuesday night, Aug. 19, 2014 at her residence following an illness of the past three years.
She was born June 29, 1930 in Oil City, daughter of the late James Kane and Grace Gier Kane Cyone.
On Jan. 29, 1949, she married Edward A. McAlee in St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway, and he survives.
She resided in Johnsonburg for the past 66 years and was formerly of Ridgway.
She was a 1947 graduate of Ridgway Area High School.
Nancy Lee Ross Long, affectionately known as â€śMeme,â€ť passed away peacefully at home in State College on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.Â
The daughter of Charles and Sarah Belle Myers Ross, Nancy was born Sept. 3, 1938 in Philipsburg.
Madlyn Mary DeSantis Ferraro died Aug. 7, 2014 after a brief illness.
She was a longtime resident of Montgomery but recently relocated to Raleigh, N.C.
She was an amazing artist and her works of art are displayed throughout the southeast. Madlyn was also a dedicated RN that took care of many patients while they struggled with cancer. After her time as a nurse, she devoted the duration of her career in cancer research at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Aileen M. Carpin, 82, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Weedville, died early Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 11, 1932 in Force, daughter of the late David and Margaret (Assalone) Cameroni.
On Nov. 25, 1950, she married Casimir â€śCharlieâ€ť Carpin who preceded her in death Feb. 26, 2013.
She was a graduate of Bennetts Valley High School and cosmetology school in DuBois.
She was owner/operator of Aileen's Beauty Salon in Weedville for more than 40 years.
Mary Lynn Keller Sykes, 89, of 339 Dewey Circle, Ridgway, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 following a brief illness.
She was born July 28, 1925 in Yatesboro, daughter of the late Alice May (Morrow) Hoover and Lynn E. Hoover.
On June 12, 1950, she married Ralph W. Keller Jr. who preceded her in death May 8, 1975. On July 16, 1977, she married Ray B. Sykes who preceded her in death March 2, 2011.
