John W. "Jack" Hanes, 82, of 121 Poplar Rd., St. Marys, died on Thursday, June 7, 2012 following a brief illness.
He was born July 1, 1929 in St. Marys, a son of the late Raphael "Ralph" and Kathryn Samick Hanes. On April 15, 1999, he married Betty Dornich Erich Hanes, who survives.
Christian C. Cordero, 23, of 131 Dove Rd., St. Marys, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in State College.
He was born Dec. 23, 1988 in St. Marys, son of Adelardo and Nanette Soriano Cordero, who survive, of St. Marys. He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Elk County Catholic High School in 2007. He attended South Hills College in State College. He had also attended Penn College. He was in the diagnostic sonography program in school and was active in basketball, football and the Cavalier basketball program.
Columbia M. Fabiano, 93, formerly of 312 Chestnut Ave., Ridgway, died Tuesday evening, June 5, 2012, at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born April 23, 1919, in Daguscahonda, daughter of the late Domenic and Rita (Fiorentino) Dagustine. She married James J. Fabiano on July 29, 1939, he preceded her in death on July 30, 1980. She had resided in Ridgway for most of her life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Kathleen â€śPatâ€ť Kneidel Meloni, 87, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Erie.
She was born in St. Marys on Dec. 4, 1924, daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Reider Kneidel.
Pat was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, the Ladies Guild and the New Life group of the church.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Andrew (Robert) of Baltimore, Md., and Karen Meloni (Darrell Kruszewski) of Erie; two sisters, Jean Schatz of St. Marys and Joan Rusciolelli (Frank) of Ridgway; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Alan E. Prechtel, 52, of 131 Linwood Ave., St. Marys, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born on June 4, 1960 in St. Marys, a son of the late Richard and Ruby Galmish Prechtel.
Alan was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of SMAHS.Â He was employed at Elcam for more than 30 years.Â He was a member of the Kersey Eagles.Â He greatly enjoyed racing and helping his nephew Tommy with his race car.Â He also enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and spending time with his family.Â
Jean M. Schlimm, 75, of 289 West Creek Rd., St. Marys, died at her home on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
She was born Aug. 23, 1936 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late John and Clara Prechtl Detsch.
On Sept. 2, 1957 in St. Mary's Church, she married the late Ferdinand "Buzz" Schlimm.
Ferdinand G. "Buzz" Schlimm, 75, of 289 West Creek Rd., St. Marys, died at his home on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
He was born Nov. 25, 1936 in St. Marys, a son of the late Ferdinand E. and Esther Straub Schlimm.
On September 2, 1957 in St. Mary's Church, he married his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, the late Jeanne Detsch Schlimm.
Thomas L. Schneider, 91, of 117 Hill Road, St. Marys, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 15, 1921 in St. Marys, son of the late Leo and Anna Mertz Schneider. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Parochial School. He was a retired employee of Airco Speer, retiring in 1983 after 45 years of service.
On July 31, 1948 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Elizabeth J. â€śBettyâ€ť Struble, who preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1997.
M. Althea Weilacher, 98, formerly of Owl's Nest and Yarnall Street in Kane, died late Friday evening, June 1, 2012, at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys.
Born Jan. 16, 1914 in Masten, she was the daughter of the late Domer R. and Beatrice A. Danley Derr.Â On Aug. 30, 1931 in Clarendon, she married Daniel E. Weilacher, who died in 1973.
Mrs. Weilacher was a nurse's aide for several years at the Kane Community Hospital, then later worked at Stackpole in Kane, also for several years.
Maurice J. Mullaney, 87, of 312 North Michael St., St. Marys, died Saturday morning, June 2, 2012 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 22, 1924 in St. Marys, and was the son of the late Patrick H. and Charlotte R. Spangler Mullaney.
On Oct. 27, 1951, in the St. Maryâ€™s Church, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Samick. She died on March 17, 2003, after 51 years of marriage.
