Joan Hretzek, 88, of Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys and formerly of Weedville, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at Pinecrest Manor.
She was born on Sept. 30, 1923 in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Alfred and Agnes (Falcone) Ritto.
She married Pater A. Hretzek, who preceded her in death on July 19, 1982.
Mrs. Hretzek lived most of her life in Philadelphia and many years with her son Perry in Weedville. She was a housewife and was Catholic by faith. She enjoyed shopping.
Gary L. Crosby, 69, of 11453 Rt. 120, Emporium, died at his residence on Monday night, July 16, 2012, surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 30, 1942 in St. Marys, Â a son of Lillian Nordberg Crosby of Emporium and the late Ivan Crosby.
On Dec. 19, 1970 in Emporium, he married Linda Taylor Crosby, who survives.
Bertha N. Wickett, 80, of St. Marys, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Select Specialty Services in Erie.
She was born Oct. 3, 1931, in St. Marys, the daughter of John and Margaret Leightner Brennen. She married Jerome V. Wickett, who predeceased her on Dec. 23, 2010. She resided all of her life in St. Marys. Mrs. Wickett was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. She had been employed at Sylvania for a number of years.
Dorothy Jane Knouse died on Monday, July 9, 2012 at her home in San Antonio, Texas following a brief illness.
She was born on April 19, 1933 in Texas, daughter of the late James and Alice Baxter and daughter-in-law of the late Roland (Tex) and Lavina Knouse of St. Marys.
She married Russell Knouse in 1950 in the chapel at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas.
John J. "Hunce Caskey, 78, of 616 S. Michael Rd., St. Marys, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 3, 1934 in St. Marys, son of the late David W. and Isabelle Krieg Caskey Sr. On June 23, 1956, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Sarah A. "Sally" Herzing, who survives.
Mr. Caskey was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1952. He was a retired employee of Airco Speer, retiring in 1985.
Anita L. (Barr) Goss, 56, of Providence Forge, Va., died Friday, July 13, 2012 at her sisterâ€™s home in Caledonia.
She was Dec. 9, 1955 in DuBois, the daughter of the late James and Marion (Sexton) Barr.
On July 4, 1986, she married Duane B. Goss of Providence Forge, Va., who survives.
Mrs. Goss lived most of her life in Bennetts Valley and the past 22 years in Virginia.Â She worked 20 years in retail sales. She was Methodist by faith, an avid shopper, enjoyed the beach and pool and took great pride in maintaining her home.
Frederick G. Sturenberg, 83, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 326 Brusselles St., St. Marys, died on Thursday, July 12, 2012 following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 9, 1928 in St. Marys, a son of the late George and Helen Kosco Sturenberg.
Fred was a member of Queen of the World Church.Â He served in the U.S. Army.Â He retired from Powdered Metal Products after many years of service.Â He had a passion for wristwatches and enjoyed collecting them.Â He also enjoyed motorcycles and the Washington Redskins.Â
June M. Smith, 94, of 3193 Rte. 6, Kane, died Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Â Â Â Â Born June 2, 1918, in Johnsonburg, she was a daughter of Alfred and Catherine "Kate" Sweeney Hinchliffe.Â On Sept. 24, 1938, in Johnsonburg, she married James S. Smith, who preceded her in death.
Â Â Â Â Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church and a former member of St. Anne's Church in Wilcox and Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg.Â She also was a former member of the C.D. of A. in both Wilcox and Johnsonburg.
Savannah O. (Fine) Straub, 23, of 797 Washington St., St. Marys, died unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, July 11, 2012.
She was born Jan. 4, 1989 in Washington County, Pa. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 2007.
She had also attended Penn State Altoona. She was an employee of Dinoâ€™s Place. Savannah enjoyed photography, reading and her cat, Nikkita.
Omar H. Ives, 88, of Tyler, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at DuBois Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 3, 1924 in Mason Hill, son of the late Omar and Myrtle (Hanscome) Ives.
He married Lillian (Silinsky), who survives, and the couple was married for 68 wonderful years.
Mr. Ives lived most of his life in Tyler. He served in the Navy during WWII. He worked many years at Airco Speer Carbon of St. Marys and was a member of the American Legion of Weedville. He enjoyed the woods, hunting, traveling, and most of all, his family.Â
