Leon R. Swackhammer, 84, of Upper Cherry Road, Kersey, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at home after a short illness.
He was born Nov. 20, 1927 in Benezette, son of the late David & Mildred (English) Swackhammer.
On Sept. 13, 1952 he married Amelia Parisi, who survives.
He lived all his life in Elk County and enjoyed bowling and fishing. He worked at Airco Speer of St. Marys from 1955 until his retirement as General Foreman in 1989.
He was a veteran, having served in the Army during WWII.
Alice R. Haberberger, 90, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 136 Wehler Road, St. Marys, died on Monday, March 5, 2012 at the nursing home.
She was born Dec. 2, 1921 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine Quigley Haberberger.
She graduated from Mercyhurst Seminary in Erie, Class of 1939.Â She then attended Southern Seminary & Junior College in Buena Vista, Va. and the Washington School for Secretaries in Washington, D.C.Â She worked as a secretary at Stackpole Carbon Company for 38 years. She was also a member of Queen of the World Church.
Glenn T. Bauer, 44, of 980 Windfall Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 4, 2012 at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1968 in St. Marys, the son of Thomas A. and Joanne L. Catalone Bauer of Kersey, who survive. On Oct. 12, 1996 in the St. Leoâ€™s Church in Ridgway, he married Connie S. Hammer, who survives.
Shannon E. Chubon of Atlanta, Ga. formerly of Lock Haven, PA died unexpectedly at her home on March 1, 2012. Â Â
She was born January 12, 1985 in Lock Haven, the daughter of Frank L. and Mary Beth (Mosebarger) Chubon.
She was a graduate of Central Mountain High School and received a Radiology
Technology degree from Mansfield University. She was presently employed as
Victor J. "Yitter" Zawatski, 93, of Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys and formerly of Johnsonburg, died Thursday afternoon, March 1, 2012 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie following a short illness.
He was born Oct. 2, 1918 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Vincent and Leokadja Walczak Zawatski.
He married Gertrude Ann Votano on Aug. 2, 1942 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2002.
Colleen G. Kalambukas of Buffalo, N.Y., died on Friday, March 2, 2012 in the arms of her son.
She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and raised in Clearfield, daughter of the late Mark and Anna Goumas.
She married Andrew Kalambukas of St. Marys, who survives.
Having moved from St. Marys to Pittsburgh and then the last 22 years in Buffalo, NY., she and her family have their fondest memories of their life together in St. Marys. Colleen was a volunteer for many organizations and helped those in need anonymously throughout her life. She was a beloved wife and most loving mother.
Ronald Guilyard, 65, of St. Marys, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh after a short illness.
He was born Jan. 16, 1947, in DuBois, son of the late Gene Sr. and Eloise (Enty) Guilyard. On Sept. 19, 1970, he married Bonita (Jeter) Guilyard of St. Marys.
Caroline M. McClain, 89, of 229 Grandview Rd., St. Marys, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at the Pinecrest Manor after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 14, 1922, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Bernard and Caroline Erich Wright.
On Jan. 13, 1940, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married Jay P. McClain, who preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1994.
Mrs. McClain was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Sacred Heart School. She was a member of Queen of the World Church and enjoyed life, her family, and especially her grandchildren.
Shirley L. McMillen, 69, Brookville, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.
She was born Jan. 2, 1943, in Falls Creek, a daughter of the late William David and Mary C. Barnett Stauffer.
Ms. McMillen attended Reynoldsville High School. She was formerly married to William Dale McMillen, who preceded her in death March 10, 1991.
Ms. McMillen was a waitress for 22 years at Truck Stops of America.
She was an active member of her church, the First Assembly of God in Punxsutawney.
Elsie M. Hathorn, 85, of 491 Wolfel Ave., St. Marys, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at the Altoona Hospital.
She was born June 19, 1926, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Andrew and Elsie Doeffinger Schauer. On May 20, 1950, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married Richard E. Hathorn, who survives.
Mrs. Hathorn was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1944. She was a homemaker and was a former employee of the Stackpole Corp.
