Joseph “Moon” Asalone

Joseph “Moon” Asalone, 85, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Weedville, died Friday, July 18, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.
He was born July 9, 1929 in Caledonia, son of the late Joseph M. and Emma (Bonfardine) Asalone.
On May 29, 1949, he married Catherine Lease in St. Joseph Church. She preceded him in death May 30, 2010.
He retired from Osram-Sylvania in 1991. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Master Sergeant in the 28th Infantry Division. He was a charter member of Valley Legion Post 978 where he served terms as Post Commander.

Robert D. Watts

Robert D. Watts, 20, of 161 Krise Rd., Kersey, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 following injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born on July 17, 1994, in Palm Beach County, Fla., a son of Robert Watts, who survives, and the late Courtney Ann Kreckel.
Bob was a graduate of SMAHS, Class of 2012. He worked for his grandfather at Dinsmore Welding & Fabricating and liked to ride motorcycles. He also enjoyed baseball, basketball and weightlifting.

Dolores H. Sorg

Dolores H. Sorg, 69, of 406 Maple Ave., Ridgway, died Saturday, July 19, 2014.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1945, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Donovan Ehrensberger.
On Aug. 25, 1973, in Queen of the World Church, she married Henry W. Sorg, who preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 2000.

Scott L. Bauer

Scott L. Bauer, 28, of Kaul Avenue, St. Marys, died unexpectedly Friday, July 18, 2014 at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born April 24, 1986 in St. Marys, son of Blaze L. Bauer of St. Marys and Diane Laughlin Shuttleworth of St. Marys.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Parochial and public schools. He was a former employee of Penn Pallet and the Buehler Lumber Company.
He was a member of Queen of the World Church, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his son and family.

James "Jim" Wolff

James "Jim" Wolff, 66, died Thursday, July 11, 2014 at his home in Erie.
He was born in St. Marys on Dec. 17, 1947, son of David L. Wolff and Eleanor Miles Wolff.
Jim attended the St. Marys Area Schools but lived in Erie most of his adult life.
He is survived by one brother, Luther Wolff of St. Marys; and three sisters, Anna Mae Wolff Haag of Greenville, Mona Lee Wolff Krolczyk of Ridgway and Christine Wolff Gerber of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Elmer Wolff and Stephen Wolff.

Leon F. 'Squeaky' Bauer

Leon F. 'Squeaky' Bauer, 90, of Frenchville, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at his home.
He was born on April 4, 1924 in St. Marys, a son of the late Norman and Hilda (Pontzer) Bauer.
He served with the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII.
He was employed with Pure Carbon Co. of St. Marys for 30 years, retiring in 1984.
He is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Leona (Beauseigneur) Davis of Frenchville; a sister, Malene Wegemer of Casper, Wyo.; a brother, George Bauer of St. Marys; several nieces and nephews; and his trusted dog, Brady.

Genevieve E. Anderson

Genevieve E. Anderson, 95, of 433 S. Michael St., St. Marys, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at her home.
She was born on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 1918, a daughter of the late August and Christine Menod Ehrensberger.
On May 17, 1941 in Philipsburg, she married Clark J. Anderson who preceded her in death in 2004.
Mrs. Anderson was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School and a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a son, C. Theodore Anderson of St. Marys, and a daughter, Laurel Anderson of Ohio.

Robert G. Wittman

Robert G. Wittman, 68, formerly from Dagus Mines, died Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was the son of the late Edwin L. and Alice Stauffer Wittman.
He was a Vietnam veteran serving with the 101st Airborne Division and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by three daughters, one son, grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by a sister, Janice (Russ) Roan of Avis; and two brothers, James, St. Louis, Mo., and Mark of Dagus Mines. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou.

Martha E. Cheatle

Martha E. Cheatle, 86, of 235 Muenster Rd., St. Marys, died on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Pinecrest Manor following a brief illness.
She was born on Feb. 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Horace and Martha McGill Horning.
On Aug. 31, 1947 in Emporium Methodist Church, she married Charles L. Cheatle, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Martha was a member of the Presbyterian Church and worked briefly at Sylvania until she became a homemaker. She loved crocheting, playing cards and cooking. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Batiste T. "Kack" Franco

Batiste T. "Kack" Franco, 85, of 6478 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Johnsonburg, died Sunday morning, July 13, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1928 in Johnsonburg, son of Batiste and Frances Sirianni Franco.
On Oct. 31, 1950, he married Stephana C. "Steffie" LaFarr in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, and she survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1946.
