The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch soccer team advanced to the semifinal of the District 9-AA girls' soccer tournament on Wednesday evening when they defeated the Clarion High Lady Bobcats by a 1-0 score in a first-round game played at the Angela Huey Field in Fox Township.
"This was a hard-fought game that could have gone either way, as both teams played really well today," said St. Marys Area Coach Kelly Carr. "Our squad played extremely well today and emerged with a hard-earned 1-0 victory."
The Elk County Catholic Crusaders were eliminated from the District 9 Class A tournament by the Coudersport Falcons 2-0 in a quarterfinal contest Wednesday evening at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Kersey. The Crusaders finished the season 12-5-1.
Most of the first half was a defensive battle and both keepers were kept busy.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch and the Elk County Catholic Crusader football teams will return to action Friday night.
Karns City at St. Marys
The Dutchmen of coach Joe Schlimm will close out their season Friday by playing host to the Karns City Gremlins in a KSAC Large School Division contest. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The Dutch seniors and their parents will be recognized in pre-game ceremonies slated to begin at 6:15 p.m.
St. Marys will bring a 5-3 record into tomorrow night’s contest.
