The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team closed out their 2010 season with a 28-20 victory over the Karns City Gremlins Friday night at Dutch Country Stadium.
The Dutch finished the year with a solid 6-3 record.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams exchanged the lead during the first half and early in the second half.
St. Marys began to take charge when they went up 20-12 with 40 seconds remaining in the third quarter on a screen pass from quarterback Brad Yetzer to running back Brian Merritt, who took the ball 34 yards for the touchdown.
The Elk County Catholic Crusaders spoiled the Ridgway Elkers’ Senior Night by handing them a 41-0 setback on Friday at the Ridgway Area High School. The Crusaders rebounded from back-to-back losses to Brockway and Curwensville to play a very solid game on Friday against the Elkers.
“I feel that the way we practiced this week was the key to tonight’s win,” said Travis Skrzypek, head coach of the Crusaders. “We worked hard all week long in practice and as a result, we responded well in the game situations tonight.
