Local runners place at PIAA cross country championships

The local cross country runners fared very well at Saturday’s PIAA cross country championships, held at Parkview Cross Country Course in Hershey.
Elk County Catholic’s Kennedy Weisner placed second and Harley Thompson placed third in their respective Class AA championships, while St. Marys Area’s Adair Gennocro was third in the AA girls’ race.

Lady Crusaders advance to regional volleyball tourney

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders volleyball squad finished second in the District 9-A Volleyball Tournament held on Saturday at the St. Marys Area High School’s “Dutch Oven” to earn a spot in the PIAA Regional Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Crusaders, who will be competing in Pool C, will be the No. 2 team out of District Nine and will play at Clarion High School on Saturday against the District 6 and 10 champions, along with the WPIAL runner-up.

Lady Dutch volleyball takes second in D9-AA tourney

CLARION - The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team closed out their season Saturday by finishing in second place at the District 9 Class AA final four held at Clarion Area High School.
The tournament opened with the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks handing the Kane Lady Wolves a 3-0 loss in games of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-23.
St. Marys and Kane met in the second match of the day, with St. Marys coming out on top 3-2, 25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 20-25 and 15-12.
The third and final match, which decided the District 9-AA title, went to Punxsutawney 3-0, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-11.
