November 5th
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders volleyball team kept their record clean on Thursday evening, defeating the Otto-Eldred Lady Terrors by a 3-1 score in the quarterfinals of the District 9-A Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Crusaders ran their slate to 14-0 on the season as they defeated the Lady Terrors 25-14, 23-25, 25-14 and 25-14 in a match held at the Aaron J. Straub Gym on the Elk Catholic campus.
DuBOIS - The Karns City Lady Gremlins edged the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders by a 1-0 score Thursday night at the DuBois Area High School field for the District 9 Class A championship.
Karns City will now take on the third-place team from District 7, either Springdale or Greensburg Central Catholic, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at a site and time to be announced.
Last night’s contest saw the two teams battle to a 0-0 tie at the half.
November 2nd
BROCKWAY - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader soccer team advanced to the District 9 Class A championship with a 1-0 victory over the DuBois Central Lady Cardinals in a match played at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.
The Lady Crusaders will take on the Karns City Lady Gremlins Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at the DuBois Area High School field for the District 9 title.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team will open play in the District 9-A tournament on Thursday by hosting the Otto-Eldred Lady Terrors.
Elk Catholic, the top seed, received a bye on Tuesday. Eighth-seeded Otto-Eldred beat ninth-seeded Curwensville 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19).
November 1st
BROCKWAY - The Punxsutawney Chucks edged the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch soccer team by a 4-3 score in overtime Monday night in a District 9-AA semifinal game played at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.
The Chucks will now meet the Bradford Owls Thursday night at Clarion University for the District 9-AA title.
In last night’s semifinal game, the Chucks wasted little time, scoring with 38:57 left in the first half to take the 1-0 lead.
The two teams battled back and forth, with both having scoring opportunities, but neither were able to find the goal.
BROCKWAY - The Bradford Area Lady Owls scored three goals in 5:49 seconds in the second half of Monday evening's District 9-AA soccer playoff game at Brockway to defeat the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch, 3-0. The loss ended the season for the Lady Dutch, while the Bradford girls will take on the Clearfield girls on Wednesday night at Clarion for the District championship. Clearfield won over Ridgway by a 4-0 score for the right to meet Bradford for the District title.
October 31st
RIDGWAY - The Elk County Catholic cross country teams successfully defended their District 9 Class AA championships by taking home the team titles at the 2010 District 9 meets held at Ridgway’s Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School on Boot Jack Road Saturday.
The Crusaders won the boys’ title with a total of 63 points. They were followed by Oswayo Valley with 69, Cranberry 80, Northern Potter 86, Kane 144, North Clarion 147, Moniteau 217, Brockway 217, Clarion-Limestone 234, Brookville 236, AC Valley 277, DuBois Central 328, Smethport 368 and Port Allegany 387.
RIDGWAY - The St. Marys Area cross country teams qualified three runners for this weekend’s PIAA meet in Hershey.
Adair Gennocro, Gideon Woelfel and Justin Huey will be representing St. Marys Area on Saturday.
Gennocro set a new District 9 course record on Saturday, winning the girls’ Class AA crown with a time of 18:51. The old record of 19:03 was set in 2008 by Dani Kocjancic of Kane.
