Ellie Petrosky of the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders soccer team scored the winning goal with 1:39 remaining in the game to pull out an exciting 3-2 victory over the Lady Dutch of St. Marys Area High School in a match held at the Benzinger Park soccer field. Petrosky finished a slotted ball from freshman Emma Daghir for the game winner.
"This (ECC) team has certainly not been short on drama lately," said Lady Crusaders coach Don Fabiano after the game. "That's the second time in the last three games we had to rally in the second half for a win," he added.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch soccer team held off the Coudersport Falcons by a 3-2 score Thursday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field to raise their record to 12-3-2 on the season.
St. Marys honored their senior players along with their parents in halftime ceremonies.
The first half of Thursdayâ€™s match saw the Dutchmen take control of the first half. The Dutch had seven shots to two by the Falcons. St. Marys also had five corner kicks.
The Dutch got on the board early, as Thomas Murmann scored with 31:34 left until intermission to give St. Marys the 1-0 lead.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team handed the Ridgway Elkers a 5-1 setback on Thursday evening in a match played at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Kersey. With the win, Elk Catholic improves to 10-4-1 on the season.
The Crusaders dominated possession of the ball from the start of the game, but Ridgway keeper Jesse Schneider kept the ball out of the net until almost the midway point of the first half. Elk Catholic's Mitchel Haberberger also made a few nice saves to keep the Elkers scoreless throughout the first half.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader golf team picked up a victory over St. Marys Area and Brockway Area in a match held on Wednesday afternoon at the St. Marys Country Club golf course.
"This is the best we played all season," said ECCHS Coach John Vollmer following the match. "We had two of our players shoot their best scores of the season in the match as Brandon Schlimm carded a 38 and Jess Jaynes carded a 40. Once again Darren (Simons) was the medalist for the day with his 34. Elliott Struble also came in with a great round for us as he carded a 39."
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader tennis team edged the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch squad 5-4 in a match played at the SMAHS courts Wednesday afternoon.
At first singles, ECCâ€™s Kylie Auman, who returned to the line-up after some time off for an illness, defeated Rachel Walker 6-1, 6-2.
At second singles, Allison Shields of the Lady Dutch came back after being down in the first set to win her match over Crystal Hanes in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.
Loreal Housler of ECC defeated Brandi Meyer 6-2, 6-2 at third singles.
PUNXSUTAWNEY - A Petrosky had a hand in all three Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders goals Tuesday night in a 3-0 Upper Allegheny Valley Soccer League Central victory over the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks.
ECC junior Abbi Petrosky scored twice in the game. Her first goal came with 23:21 left until halftime. Freshman Michaela Cashmer had the assist. Petrosky's other tally came with 7:02 left in the contest with the assist going to senior Hanna McGowan.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders kept their slate clean on Tuesday evening as they handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team a 3-0 setback in a match held at the Aaron J. Straub Gymnasium on the Elk Catholic campus.
The Lady Crusaders won the best-of-five match 3-0 as they won the first game by a 25-17 score, then held on for a 25-22 win in the second game and took the third game by a 25-18 score.
The St. Marys Area cross country teams swept the Brookville squads in a meet held at Brookville on Tuesday.
The Dutchmen defeated the Raiders by a 22-34 score, while the Lady Dutch downed the Lady Raiders 19-36.
SMAâ€™s Adair Gennocro won the girlsâ€™ meet with a time of 21:22. Katie Zents of Brookville was next with a time of 22:32. St. Marys took the next four spots to win the meet: at third was Kaley Williams in 24:04, followed by Michaela Rupprecht in 27:47, Cassie Wonderling in 28:57 and Rachel Schreiber with 29:12.
