Elk Catholic cross country teams defend AA titles

RIDGWAY - The Elk County Catholic cross country teams successfully defended their District 9 Class AA championships by taking home the team titles at the 2010 District 9 meets held at Ridgway’s Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School on Boot Jack Road Saturday.
The Crusaders won the boys’ title with a total of 63 points. They were followed by Oswayo Valley with 69, Cranberry 80, Northern Potter 86, Kane 144, North Clarion 147, Moniteau 217, Brockway 217, Clarion-Limestone 234, Brookville 236, AC Valley 277, DuBois Central 328, Smethport 368 and Port Allegany 387.

SMA’s Gennocro, Woelfel win D-9 cross country titles

RIDGWAY - The St. Marys Area cross country teams qualified three runners for this weekend’s PIAA meet in Hershey.
Adair Gennocro, Gideon Woelfel and Justin Huey will be representing St. Marys Area on Saturday.
Gennocro set a new District 9 course record on Saturday, winning the girls’ Class AA crown with a time of 18:51. The old record of 19:03 was set in 2008 by Dani Kocjancic of Kane.

Dutchmen close out season with 28-20 win over Gremlins

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team closed out their 2010 season with a 28-20 victory over the Karns City Gremlins Friday night at Dutch Country Stadium.
The Dutch finished the year with a solid 6-3 record.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams exchanged the lead during the first half and early in the second half.
St. Marys began to take charge when they went up 20-12 with 40 seconds remaining in the third quarter on a screen pass from quarterback Brad Yetzer to running back Brian Merritt, who took the ball 34 yards for the touchdown.

Elk Catholic Crusaders top Ridgway 41-0

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders spoiled the Ridgway Elkers’ Senior Night by handing them a 41-0 setback on Friday at the Ridgway Area High School. The Crusaders rebounded from back-to-back losses to Brockway and Curwensville to play a very solid game on Friday against the Elkers.
“I feel that the way we practiced this week was the key to tonight’s win,” said Travis Skrzypek, head coach of the Crusaders. “We worked hard all week long in practice and as a result, we responded well in the game situations tonight.

Lady Crusader volleyball ends regular season undefeated

JOHNSONBURG - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders finished the regular season undefeated with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15) victory over Johnsonburg last night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
The Ramettes honored five seniors before the game: Cody Anderson, daughter of Carol Anderson, Paige DeCecchis, daughter of Ed and Lynell DeCecchis, Taylor Harvey, daughter of Kristene and the late John Harvey, Justis Myers, daughter of Justin and Kelly Myers and Tori Stanley, daughter of Dave and Annie Stanley.

Lady Dutch end regular season with 3-0 win

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball squad celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Brookville Lady Raiders in their regular-season finale at the "Dutch Oven" on Thursday night. The Lady Dutch won the best-of-five match, 3-0, on games of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-18.

St. Marys CC Ladies win Challenge Cup

The St. Marys Country Club ladies repeated as the Challenge Cup champions, defeating the Bavarian Hills Golf Course ladies by a 39-33 score in the 36-hole match. The two teams played evenly at the St. Marys Country Club as both squads scored 18 points each, but the difference was the St. Marys CC win at the Hills by a 21-15 score.
This marked the second consecutive year that the St. Marys Country Club ladies won the tournament.

Lady Dutch soccer team advances to D9-AA semis

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch soccer team advanced to the semifinal of the District 9-AA girls' soccer tournament on Wednesday evening when they defeated the Clarion High Lady Bobcats by a 1-0 score in a first-round game played at the Angela Huey Field in Fox Township.
"This was a hard-fought game that could have gone either way, as both teams played really well today," said St. Marys Area Coach Kelly Carr. "Our squad played extremely well today and emerged with a hard-earned 1-0 victory."

Coudersport eliminates Crusaders from D9-A tournament 2-0

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders were eliminated from the District 9 Class A tournament by the Coudersport Falcons 2-0 in a quarterfinal contest Wednesday evening at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Kersey. The Crusaders finished the season 12-5-1.
Most of the first half was a defensive battle and both keepers were kept busy.

Dutch host Gremlins, Crusaders travel to Ridgway Friday

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch and the Elk County Catholic Crusader football teams will return to action Friday night.
Karns City at St. Marys
The Dutchmen of coach Joe Schlimm will close out their season Friday by playing host to the Karns City Gremlins in a KSAC Large School Division contest. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The Dutch seniors and their parents will be recognized in pre-game ceremonies slated to begin at 6:15 p.m.
St. Marys will bring a 5-3 record into tomorrow night’s contest.
