A pin by Kevin Hoy at 285 pounds gave the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestlers a hard-fought 39-36 victory over the DuBois Area Beavers last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
Hoy, along with fellow senior Jimmy Antonelli, gave the Dutch the victory when they both recorded pins in the final two bouts of the night as St. Marys trailed 36-27 after the 189-pound match.
“That’s what makes high school wrestling great,” said St. Marys coach Dominic Surra. “That was a great match from a fan’s perspective.
Elk Catholic's Crusaders picked up their seventh win of the season on Tuesday evening as they defeated the visiting Punxsutawney Area Chucks by a 52-33 score in a District 9 League encounter at the Aaron J. Straub gym on the Elk Catholic campus.
Things started out very slowly for the Crusaders, as they were held scoreless in the first five minutes of the game, falling behind 9-2. Then, in the final three minutes of the period, the Crusaders began clicking as they outscored Punxsy 8-2 to get back in the game.
