Crusaders crushed by Golden Tide 38-6

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders were dealt a tough 38-6 loss by the Curwensville Golden Tide during a cold, wet and muddy contest at Dutch Country Stadium in St. Marys on Friday evening. The Crusaders' lone touchdown came in the middle of the third quarter after the Golden Tide had already built a 30-point lead.

Dutch soccer edges Port Allegany 2-1

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen boys' soccer squad ended their regular season by slipping and sliding their way to a muddy 2-1 victory over the Port Allegheny Gators in a cold and rainy match on Thursday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field.
All of the scoring for both teams took place in the first half.

Johnsonburg volleyball team downs Lady Dutch 3-0

The Johnsonburg Ramettes volleyball team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch squad a 3-0 setback Thursday on Senior Night for St. Marys Area.
The Lady Dutch seniors, along with their parents, were recognized in pre-match ceremonies.
The Ramettes won the first set by a 25-19 margin. They took the second set 25-22 and won the third set 25-23 to win the match 3-0.
“I can’t be disappointed with the loss,” said St. Marys coach Erica Vogt. “Overall we did well. The six seniors all did well tonight.”

Lady Dutch soccer ends season with 1-0 win over Smethport

Smethport scored the only goal in Wednesday afternoon's girls' soccer match at the SMAHS soccer field; however, it was the Lady Dutch who came away with the 1-0 win.
"We lost to them the first time, so getting a little revenge was nice," said SMA coach Dr. Bob Schmidt. "[They were] some pretty well-matched teams and we've continued to improve. We had a lot of good action up front with Aspyn Wolff, Holly Shields, and Caley Keister, and then in the back with Mia Keener and Shannon Bridges, as well as Haley McGowan. It was a good team effort and a nice way to finish the season."

Ridgway volleyball squad downs Lady Dutch 3-0

The Ridgway Lady Elkers volleyball team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch a 3-0 setback last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Lady Elkers won the first set 25-22. They took the second set 25-18 and won the match by taking the third set 25-23.
“I can’t complain about how we played, but we just could not get anything going,” said St. Marys coach Erica Vogt. “I know we can play solid when we play. We have to get it together for Districts. I know what they are capable of.
“The game ball went to Kiana Hoohuli tonight, who played well coming off an injury.”

St. Marys Area cross country competes at Ridgway

Ridgway cross country hosted Brockway, St. Marys and Kane in action Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
In the varsity girls' race, Adair Gennocro of St. Marys was the top finisher with a time of 19:07. Sloan Foster was third with a time of 22:03. Alexis Hanes had a time of 25:00 and Casey Kline had a mark of 27:29. Rachel Schreiber finished at 29:00, Cassie Wonderling had a time of 30:42 and Ashley Mertz had a time of 34:15.
For Kane, Christine Boyer was the top finisher and fourth in the girls' race with a time of 22:14.

Lady Crusaders defend District 9-AA team tennis title

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader tennis team successfully defended their District 9-AA tennis team championship on Monday by defeating the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch by a 4-1 score in a match played at Memorial Park.
“Our girls were ready to play today,” said ECCHS coach Pete Meier. “It was a great season.
“This was the best that Abby Meyer and Loreal Housler have played in four years. They were outstanding. Loreal battled against a tough opponent.

Lady Dutch soccer edges Punxsutawney 2-1

It was a sunny, muddy and extremely windy afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field; however, the conditions were perfect for the Lady Dutch as they picked up their first home victory of the season in a 2-1 contest against the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks.
"Conditions made it an ugly game and Punxsy was scrappy. They moved to the ball well and I think we just had more team speed in the end and that's what allowed us to prevail. We dominated most of the game but the mud was the equalizer in the win," said SMA coach Dr. Bob Schmidt.

DuBois Area soccer team beats Dutch Saturday

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch soccer team lost a 7-0 contest to the DuBois Area Beavers on a muddy, cold, wet and windy Saturday morning at the SMAHS soccer field.
The Beavers were the aggressors in the first half of the contest as they were able to build a 5-0 lead at the half.
DuBois got on the board at the 31:54 mark to take the 1-0 lead.
As both teams battled their way through the water and mud, neither mounted much of an offensive threat.
DuBois made the score 2-0 at the 16:08 mark as the shot went over the keeper’s head.

Rovers edge Crusaders 42-41 in double overtime

BROCKWAY – The Elk County Catholic Crusaders came up a few yards short of beating the Brockway Rovers on Friday evening, losing 42-41 in 2 OT as their two-point conversion attempt failed.
"It was a hard-fought ball game the whole time," said ECC coach Travis Skrzypek. "Both teams played outstanding football. It was an exciting game. We just came out one point shy."
"We definitely played a solid game, I think. We didn't have any dumb penalties. We held onto the ball. We played a solid football game. We just didn't get it done at the end," Skrzypek added.
