The St. Marys American Legion Baseball team opened their season Wednesday night with a 6-4 victory over the Bradford Legion at Berwind Park.
“I thought the team played well together for their first game of the season,” said St. Marys manager Fran Pasi. “Bradford hit the ball hard against our pitching.”
Bradford had 11 hits in the contest. Kevin Hoy started on the mound for St. Marys and worked three innings, giving up nine hits and striking out three. Ryan Uhl worked the final four innings, giving up two hits, walking three and striking out seven.
BROCKWAY - The Serra Catholic Eagles ended the Elk County Catholic Crusader season Monday in the first round of the PIAA Class A tournament by an 11-5 score.
The game was played at the Brockway Area High School field.
The Eagles took advantage of a four-run first inning and a five-run sixth inning to record the victory. The Crusaders rallied for three runs in the home half of the seventh, but it was a little too late.
