The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team recorded a 3-0 victory over the Brookville Lady Raiders last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Lady Dutch took the first set 25-9, won the second set 25-16 and won the third set 25-12 to win the match.
The St. Marys squad served very well in last nightâ€™s contest as both Lauren Dalessandro and Sami Hanes recorded 13 service points each. Abbey Cribbs had eight service points. Dalessandro had seven aces, while Hanes had four.
â€śOverall, at no time did we slack off tonight,â€ť said St. Marys coach Erica Vogt. â€śWhen we got the ball, we played.â€ť
With 15:24 remaining in Thursday afternoon's boys' soccer match-up between St. Marys and Ridgway, the Elkers had just secured a two-goal advantage and looked set to pick up a victory over the Flying Dutchmen. However, St. Marys was able to regain their momentum and rally to tie the game by scoring a pair of goals within a span of just over three minutes and then seal the victory during the first overtime period.
KERSEY â€“Â The Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team used a pair of goals - one in each half - to shut out the Curwensville Golden Tide 2-0 on Wednesday evening in a match played at Angela Huey Memorial Field.
RIDGWAY - Ridgway girls soccer used a late goal to propel the Lady Elkers to a 3-2 victory over Elk County Catholic Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team defeated the Johnsonburg Ramettes 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a match played at the St. Marys Area High School.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen boys' soccer team shut out the Johnsonburg Rams 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a match played at the SMAHS soccer field.
The Dutchmen had two goals in the first half and one in the second to record the win.
"Both teams came out very, very slow at the beginning. We got fortunate and put the first one (goal) in and got lucky on an own goal that they scored, and that was enough to keep us ahead of the game. They came out hard in the second half and picked it up a little bit," said St. Marys coach Russ Micale.
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team handed the DuBois Area Lady Beavers a 3-1 loss Tuesday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Lady Dutch took the first game by a 25-16 score. DuBois evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 win in the second game. The Lady Dutch won the third game 25-21 and the fourth game 25-16 to win the match.
â€śChelsie Gaton was our player of the game with 11 kills and 14 service points. She also blocked well,â€ť said St. Marys coach Erica Vogt.
The St. Marys Area High School cross country squads both picked up wins over Punxsutawney during a meet held at the St. Marys Area High school on Tuesday afternoon. The Dutchmen defeated the Chucks 27-29, while the Lady Dutch notched a 23-32 win over the Lady Chucks. Runners from DuBois Central Catholic also participated in the event.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg volleyball won 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 20-25, 25-15) over Elk County Catholic Tuesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
"It's a good win for the girls against a good team," Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said. "They hustled and they played hard. We seemed to be jelling as a team. We still have some things that we have to fix. All in all, they played hard. We minimized our mistakes."
PORT ALLEGANY â€“ With under one minute remaining in regulation and the seconds quickly ticking away in the fourth quarter of Saturday afternoonâ€™s football game, the Elk County Catholic Crusaders faced fourth-and-goal at Port Alleganyâ€™s one-yard-line with the score tied at 19-all. Two possessions earlier the team had been in a similar scenario, driving all the way to the Gatorâ€™s three-yard-line before being shut down by Portâ€™s defense and turning the ball over on downs.
