Lady Crusaders top Sheffield Lady Wolverines 62-17

The Lady Crusaders of Elk County Catholic High School picked up their sixth win of the season on Saturday evening as they defeated the Sheffield Lady Wolverines by a 62- 17 score in an AML game played at the Aaron J. Straub Gymnasium on the Elk Catholic campus.
"Tonight's victory was a total team effort, as all 11 members of the squad contributed to the win," said ECCHS Head Coach Ken Pistner following Saturday's game. "We shot the ball very well from both the field and the foul line tonight."

Dutch hold off Owls 50-39 for D9 League win

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team raised their District 9 League record to 2-0 with a 50-39 victory over the Bradford Owls last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Dutch built a 40-26 lead after three quarters, only to see the Owls outscore the Dutch 13-2 in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter to cut the St. Marys lead to 42-39 with 2:11 left. However, Bradford failed to score the remainder of the game.
“Basketball is a game of ebb and flow, and we played well in the third quarter and they (Bradford) did well in the fourth,” said St. Marys coach Mark Guido.

SMA gymnasts open season with win over Ridgway

The St. Marys Area gymnastics squad opened their season Wednesday by traveling to Ridgway, where they handed the Ridgway squad a 116.575 to 100.98 loss.

Lady Crusaders top Brockway Lady Rovers 42-26

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders picked up their fifth victory of the season on Wednesday evening when they defeated the Brockway Area High Lady Rovers in an AML encounter by the score of 42 to 26.
"We did a great job on the boards tonight," said ECCHS Head Coach Ken Pistner following the game. "Another factor in tonight's win was the solid minutes of play that we received from our bench players."
"Tonight we had a much better offensive flow than we have displayed in the past few games," added the coach.

Ridgway wrestlers hand Dutch 40-24 setback

The Ridgway Elkers wrestling team handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch squad a 40-24 setback last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
Ridgway opened a 17-0 lead, only to see the Dutch battle back to close to within 25-24. However, Ridgway won the last three matches to win the match 40-24.
“We took a couple of steps forward again tonight,” said St. Marys coach Dominic Surra. “Ridgway has been a quality team for some time, and this is just part of the growing process.
“All the kids gave good fights tonight. Their (Ridgway) experience paid off in some matches.

Lady Dutch stay unbeaten, beat Brookville 63-39

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team stayed perfect on the season as they defeated the Brookville Lady Raiders by a 63-39 score last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Lady Dutch were able to break a close game open when midway through the second period and into the third period, they went on an 11-0 run, raising their lead from 19-17 to 30-17 before Brookville scored with 6:03 left in the third period.
The Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Raiders by a 39-22 margin in the final 16 minutes of play.

Flying Dutch upset Brookville Area 55-45

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen pulled off a big upset on Tuesday evening as they handed the Brookville Area High Raiders their first setback of the season by a 55-45 score in a District Nine League encounter at the Brookville gym.
"We played a complete game tonight," said Mark Guido, head coach of the St. Marys Flying Dutch. "It was very gratifying to see the fruits of labor that the squad has been putting forth tonight."

Brockway hands Elk Catholic 58-56 setback

The Brockway Rovers overcame a five-point, fourth-quarter deficit to hand the Elk County Catholic Crusaders a 58-56 setback in an AML game played on Tuesday evening at the Aaron J. Straub Gymnasium on the Elk Catholic Campus.
The game was a nip-and-tuck affair all the way, as both teams had leads of five or six points at different times during the game. The final period proved to be the difference in the game, as the Brockway Rovers were able to outscore the Crusaders 22 to 16 to pull out the big victory.
