“Any time you beat a Clearfield team it is a good win. They are a well-coached team,” said St. Marys coach Dominic Surra.
ST. MARYS – It was a classic “duel in the pool” on Monday night when the St. Marys Swim and Dive Team met the Clearfield Bisons head-on at the SMAHS Natatorium. The District 9 drama took many twists and turns, ending in the Dutchmen outlasting the Bisons 105-80 to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Lady Dutch gave it their all but were beaten by the Lady Bisons 124-62, dropping to a 1-2 record.
The St. Marys Lady Dutch used strong perimeter shooting and a fast start to take a 74-32 victory over Ridgway Monday night at Ridgway Area High School.
St. Marys made nine 3-pointers on the game. St. Marys coach Leona Hoohuli said the perimeter game is something the Lady Dutch can rely upon.
"What we're looking for is to move the basketball and we'll get our shot and we'll make our shot," Hoohuli said. "We were looking to just move the basketball around and they were able to connect on their shot."
The Elk County Catholic Crusaders raised their Allegheny Mountain League North Division record to 3-1 with a 49-39 victory over the Kane Wolves Monday night at the ECCHS gym.
The game was tied at 12 all after the first eight minutes of play with Elk outscoring Kane 14-12 in the second quarter for a 26-24 halftime lead. The Crusaders outscored the Wolves 23-15 in the second half to win the game.
“It was a good win. Kane played us really hard,” said ECCHS coach Aaron Straub.
“I thought we played hard, really scrappy, got on the floor and hustled,” said the coach.
