DuBOIS - Elk County Catholicâ€™s Maria Gismondi won the District 9-AA Singles Tennis Championship Wednesday as she defeated her teammate, Laira Reuscher, in the finals.
Gismondi won the championship by defeating Reuscher 6-4, 6-3 in the championship.
Gismondi reached the finals by defeating Anna Brinkley of Brockway 10-2 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Gismondi defeated St. Marys Areaâ€™s Amy Orr 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
FOX TWP. â€“Â Cross-town rivalry boys' soccer games between Elk County Catholic and St. Marys Area are typically exciting and close contests, and Tuesday night's match at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Fox Township did not disappoint. Both teams played a hard, scoreless 91.45 minutes of soccer, with each having plenty of opportunities to score but being unable to overcome the other's strong defense and solid goal tending.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team raised their record to 8-1 on the season with a 3-0 victory over the DuBois Area Lady Beavers Tuesday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders won the first set by a 25-20 margin. They took the second set 25-19 and won the third set by a 25-18 score to win the match 3-0.
The Ridgway Elker golf team handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch squad a 204-226 loss Tuesday in a match played at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Ridgwayâ€™s Josh Roselli was the medalist for the day with his 38.
For the Dutchmen, Rudy Gleixner had a 41 followed by Owen Schreiber with a 42, Quinn Cunningham 47, Dillon Gallagher and Kyle Pistner with 48s, Justin Beimel and Garrett Wendel with 56s and Jordan Wehler with a 62.
