The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch suffered their third straight setback last night as the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks held off the Lady Dutch for a 42-36 District 9 League victory.
The Lady Chucks were able to lead by seven points at the end of the first period, 11 at halftime and six at the end of the third quarter.
St. Marys was able to come back to knot the game at 36 with 4:18 left but could not come up with the offense.
â€śWe didnâ€™t play well defensively tonight,â€ť said St. Marys coach Leona Hoohuli. â€śWe didnâ€™t come to play four quarters. The girls just didnâ€™t seem to be focused tonight.â€ť
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team improved to 17-2 on the season with a 50-31 victory over the Brookville Lady Raiders Monday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders were able to force 15 Brookville turnovers in the first 16 minutes of play to open a 25-9 halftime lead. Elk outscored Brookville 13-6 in the first period. The Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Raiders 25-22 in the second half.
â€śI thought we played pretty well during the course of the game,â€ť said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner. â€śWe played real well defensively.â€ť

MARYS â€“Â With the regular season in its final two weeks, it is the time of year when the St. Marys Area High School Swim and Dive Team and their coaches take a hard look at the progress they made throughout the season. Yet this time the measuring stick is not the number of wins and losses. The true gauge is how the team is trending toward the end of the season.
