The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team knocked the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders from the ranks of the undefeated Friday afternoon as they handed the Lady Crusaders a 3-0 loss at Benzinger Park.
Through four innings, the game was a real pitchers’ duel between St. Marys Area’s Rachel Ginther and Elk County Catholic’s Taylor Schlimm. The Lady Dutch were able to score all of their runs in the top of the fifth inning on four hits, one of which was a two-run home run by Savanah Krivonyak.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball squad took an early lead and used good defense to pick up a 4-2 victory over cross-town rival St. Marys Area on Friday afternoon at Berwind Park.
"[It was a] tough one to take," said St. Marys Area coach Tony Azzato. "[We gave up] three unearned runs."
Brandon Schlimm started on the mound for the Crusaders, working six innings and giving up three hits, walking three, and striking out eight. Ben Cortina worked the final inning in relief, walking one.
