Headed into the top of the seventh inning of the D9 AAA girls' softball semifinal contest at the St. Marys Area High School softball field on Wednesday afternoon, the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch had kept the Clearfield Lady Bisons scoreless and looked set to record a 3-0 victory. Clearfield did not give up so easily, though, as Rachel Hoffman walked and B.J. Bowman connected with one of Lady Dutch pitcher Rachel Ginther's throws to record the only home run of the contest and pull Clearfield within one run of tying the game. St.
The St. Marys Area High School held its Spring Sports Awards Program Tuesday evening in Carpin Auditorium to recognize those student-athletes who participated in baseball, softball, boys’ tennis and boys’ and girls’ track and field.
Student Activities Director Terry Straub acted as master of ceremonies and welcomed everyone to the affair. He noted that the program would follow the order of letter and certificate presentations, presentation of MVP awards and presentation of special awards.
The fourth-seeded Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball squad advanced to the next round of the D9 playoffs with a 5-3 victory over the thirteenth-seeded Venango Catholic Vikings on Tuesday afternoon at Berwind Park in a game that was briefly delayed twice, once due to rain and then again due to thunder.
