The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Curwensville Golden Tide Monday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
Curwensville won the first set by a 25-22 score. The Lady Dutch came back to knot the match at one set apiece by taking the second set 25-17. St. Marys won the third set by a 25-20 margin and won the match by winning the fourth set by the score of 25-18.
Redbank Valley may have scored all three of the goals in Monday afternoon's girls' soccer "pink match" at the St. Marys Area High School soccer field, but for the first 68:53 of the game it looked as though the Lady Dutch were going to cruise to a 1-0 victory. RIDGWAY — Ridgway cross country hosted the annual Ridgway Invitational Saturday morning at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
A new meet record was shattered in the girls varsity race as Regan Rome of Dallas finished with a time of 18:15, breaking the old record of 19:03 which was set by Dani Kocjancic of Kane in 2008. Kennedy Weisner of Elk County Catholic also would have broken the old meet record with her runner-up finish at 18:41.
Adair Gennocro of St. Marys was third at 19:04 and Victoria Dippold took fourth for ECC with a time of 19:37.
KANE – The Elk County Catholic Crusaders had Kane beat. They had the momentum and the lead and appeared to have the game well in hand, but in the end ECC beat themselves by committing too many penalties and allowed the Wolves to rally back for a 17-14 homecoming victory on Friday night in Kane.
ECC coach Travis Skrzypek tried to look past his squad's first loss and instead focused on the quality of play both teams put up, and the effort that Kane first-year head coach Todd Silfies put into preparing his team for the game.
CLARION - A second-half rally by the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch came up short last night at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium as the Clarion Area Bobcats came away with a 40-28 victory.

“The game was lost in the first half but I am very proud of our effort in the second half,” said St. Marys coach Joe Schlimm. “We competed really well in the third and fourth quarters.”
“Clarion is a very good football team,” added Schlimm.
