The Elk County Catholic Crusaders opened their season on the road on Friday evening, losing to the Smethport Hubbers 28-21 in Smethport.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team opened their season last night by traveling to Karns City to take on the Gremlins in a Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC) Big School Division contest.
The Gremlins came away with a 42-0 victory over the Dutch.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader golf team remained perfect on the season as they defeated the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen by a 162-172 Thursday afternoon in a match played at the Leaning Pines Public Golf Course.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader tennis team saw their record slip to 2-2 on the young season as they lost an 8-1 contest to the Warren Lady Dragons Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Park. ECC hosts Johnsonburg this afernoon at 3:30 p.m.
The 22nd annual Ladies Member-Guest was held recently at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course. A total of 44 women participated in the two-person scramble, best-ball event that was sponsored by the Bavarian Hills Ladies Auxiliary.
The team of Kristy Hanes and Maryann Feldbauer were the low gross first place winners with an even par score of 72.
Low net honors went to Nancy Pistner and Jen Greenthaner with a 55.
STATE COLLEGE â€” At the May 19 Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association banquet, St. Marys native Tim Wittman was inducted into the PWCA Hall of Fame. The banquet and induction ceremonies were held at the Ramada Inn in State College.
Wittman is a 1987 graduate of St. Marys Area High School and a 1992 graduate of Penn State University with a B.S. degree in Landscape Contracting. Wittman was born and raised in St. Marys. The fourth oldest of six children, his parents, Maureen and John "Elroy" Wittman still make their home in St. Marys.
The Elk County Catholic High School golf team recorded another victory on Monday afternoon, this team defeating rival Johnsonburg by a score of 207-231.

The seventh annual Terry Dietrick Memorial Softball Tournament, which supports the Relay For Life of Elk County, was held on Saturday, Aug.3 at the Grant Road Little League Fields in Ridgway. The Annual Co-Ed Slow Pitch Softball Tournament is made up of co-workers or family and friends.
